Postby Bongtrees » Mon Oct 08, 2012 10:43 am

Can anyone suggest a method of locking a slifing pocket door?

I have a modern part glazed timber door which slides into the wall cavity to open but doesnt lock.

If the door overlaps the frame then it might be possible to use the screwed pins that are usually usd for locking two sliding windows.
The base screws to the interior part & a hole is drilled through it , the sliding frame & into the exterior frame ( or the other sliding window normally ) . The pin, which is about 2,1/2" long then thread sinto its base so locking everything. Can't remember what they are called though . :(

try googling.

The last mortice lock I fitted to a timber sliding door back in UK was fitted like an ordinary mortice lock but the locking tab bit was curved and came out like a hook in in downward rotary movement, v. secure and operated with an ordinary mortice key. Got it fro B&Q or Magnet joinery, somewhere " ordinary" anyway.

If you google "sliding door locks", you will find plenty of purpose made devices available in UK / mail order, if you know anyone coming out here. Swedish lockmaker Abloy, has a Spanish operation selling them over here, through any decent locksmith.

Also if you google "cerradura de puerta corredera" then that should come up with the Spanish sites that sell them.

Abloy in Spain can be found at http://www.tesa.es
