Painting kitchen cabinets

Postby Unicorn » Mon Oct 06, 2014 4:26 pm

I would like to paint the kitchen cupboards a different colour rather than change them.

I seem to remember reading about getting a car sprayers to spray them, the doors, for a good finish. They are the normal woodchip laminate type and in good condition.

I went into a sprayers in Estepona and he looked at me as though I had escaped from an asylum.

Has anyone done this? Paint the units, not escape from an asylum, that is. Or know anyone who may offer this service?

Cheers

There are some good Youtube tutorials in which case you need a good painter

Yes, Bong, I have seen them. I have also since tracked down a Dulux paint especially for this purpose, and a Ronseal product, so am still pondering.

Do they do Dulux in Spain?

They closed down several years ago, so, no longer there.

Unicorn, have you looked on the http://www.Ikea.es site for replacement doors? seem v.cheap and less risky than a paint/spray job.

Hi, yes, I did look at Ikea but they do not have the sizes I need. I am compromising anyway because I can get away with just painting 2 drawer fronts and the kick boards (is that correct?) and a couple of filler boards and the top and bottom pelmets. The rest of the doors are cream coloured and I can leave them as they are and it will look fine.

But cheers for your suggestion.

i am thinking if you got tile paint that if you buy an expensive purdy paintbrush you may be able to do yourself or ask a professional painter to do, if your just doing the doors it probably easier to remove and paint while off.
