Possible air lock

Postby Campo Steve » Sat Jun 13, 2015 7:45 pm

I tried to run a bath tonight. When I turned the hot tap on, only a dribble of water came out and the pipes stsrted vibrating. Could this be an air lock? The. Gas hot water boiler is just the other side of a wall from the bath. get hot waterin the kitchen at the other end of the house no problem. Any duggestions?

I think its unlikely to be an airlock unless your mains water supply was turned off, possibly a build up of scale.

The mains water was off for afew hours. Any suggestions as to what I could do? If I switch to deposito for the supply i.e. Pumped so greater pressure, would that push the air lock through and clear it? as for a build up of scale, the pipes to the bath were only installed a couple of years ago, new pipe so unlikely.

I would have thought that the mains pressure would push the air out, what you are suggesting may work and if it is not difficult do it.
I am wondering if your tap is a mixer unit as sometimes if you can block the outlet from tap and open both taps the system will fill itself up though you may have to open a hot pipe at a higher level to facilitate this.

hope this helps

Switchd to deposito and pump and it has done the trick. Mains pressure isn't very high anyway no air came out of the tap just a good flow of hot water.
