Welcome to Andalucia.com
It's only necessary to post a message in one topic category , the other one the "DIY etc"v topic category was the best one for your query.
posting in more than one places often gets confusing.
Cheers

Have you looked in the sur in english? In my opinion the Spanish will be cheaper. There are a lot of dodgey brit builders over here.

They probably have enough work on the coast. Ardales, nice area by the way.

We arranged for a Spanish builder who did an excellent job in reforming an old property in the Loja area, probably too far away from you but we got in touch with him through recommendation and "word of mouth" in the local Spanish bar. I think this is definitely the way to go, employing the services of a local Spanish builder. The added bonus was that it helped to us to get to know the locals a little better and improved our linguistic skills. Do you know someone who is reasonably bilingual who could act as a kind of intermediary in explaining what you want done, etc?

Hi biker boy,

" it needs a lot of reform work"............would that not need an architect to draw up plans and then for you to get a License to carry out this work.... :?:

jamesbowker has the right idea.....we have gone this way on all our projects with recommended Spanish (non-English speaking) builders.
All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

I agree with above comments as you need an actual plan of what your intention is as there is no language with this as it is all written down though you may have slightly different ideas there should not be big problem.
The problem is if your "winging it" is no plans you cannot get a price so its day work, how long is a piece of string?
I happen to know someone in the catchment area (20 miles) but i would not even suggest to him he look at job that not planned.
Bottom line for me you need a price and plans even though only for builder, licence is up to you...
