Solar PV - Feed In Tariff or Net Metering ?
Solar PV - Feed In Tariff or Net Metering ?
Can anyone confirm if excess Solar power, fed back to the grid, is either paid for via a Feed in Tariff (FIT) or is Net Metering used ?

If you are a prosumer, ie producer and consumer via the same meter then net metering is used. The calculation done each month, and you can not be credited for more than you consume even if you fed in more. Electric company keeps the extra and you receive no payment for the extra.

Brilliant - Net Metering is possibly simpler anyway.
I assume that systems must be registered with Endesa (or whoever). Would anyone have details for who or where (and how) to register ? Or do you simply inform the power company

Re: Solar PV - Feed In Tariff or Net Metering ?
We had panels installed last July but were told net metering was not possible/allowed. We are about to start getting paid 4.9c for what we export. I'd be very interested to know if there was a net metering option?
Re: Solar PV - Feed In Tariff or Net Metering ?
Could it be down to different electricity suppliers ?
And who with or how do you register a self built Solar PV system ?

We had our solar panels installed in November and the firm that installed them contacted us a couple of weeks ago asking for our official address, our CUPS number from the electric bill and Cadastral reference, (on IBI), which they were supplying to Endessa so that we could be registered.
He said they haven't actually haven't started paying the feed-in tarif yet, but would soon.

Thanks Gerry,
At least I know that therefore Endesa must be notified in some way. I'll try contacting them directly.

Did the installation company apply and get permits from the town hall or are they not required?
Re: Solar PV - Feed In Tariff or Net Metering ?
Anybody got the feed-in tariff working yet?

Hi Jonesy. Do you mean getting paid for exported power as I don't think there is a Feed in Tariff here like is paid in UK? We get our bill reduced by the amount we export, at a much lower rate of course and only up to the same kWhs we have used that month. Any excess they keep for free but we're told thems the rules here!
It took about a year from install until the export paperwork got sorted out btw.

Well we used TarifaSolar and had no problems. The guy was Alberto and if your Spanish is as ropey as mine, he was great.
Re: Solar PV - Feed In Tariff or Net Metering ?
Thanks again Tom, yes not very good Spanish, is your supplier Endesa? For you how long do you think it will take to recover the investment?

Re: Solar PV - Feed In Tariff or Net Metering ?
They switched us from Endesa to Fenia to get the credit for export. Very slightly better costs but we get reduction for export. I'm afraid pay back will take 20+ years though. I'd say it's more a feel good thing than a € question if being totally honest. 1 thing I would say is that the 3.8Kw solar has produced 5 Mw so if you can use it all it would be much less.
Re: Solar PV - Feed In Tariff or Net Metering ?
Tom again thanks for the background info, totally understand about the good feel factor, would be my rationale as well, bit of a dream of mine to do the install myself, would image a step to far in Spain although I have a great Spanish electrician I could call upon, anyways I will continue my research may send you a DM or two at some point if that's ok to get some details on your installation.

No problem, fire away. I'd say DIY install would be possible if reasonably handy with the sparky doing the technical bit.
Re: Solar PV - Feed In Tariff or Net Metering ?
Hi, I could not find the company based on googling for "TarifaSolar", so if that's a recommendation, could you double-check the name please?
If anyone else has recommendations for installers servicing the Benalmadena area, please let me know. I understand there is currently a
subsidy available (up to 40%) and I'm considering taking advantage of that.

Sorry, just checked and it's www.tarifaplana.solar . We were happy with them and the job but it was just a mention.

Thank you, I understand. One known happy customer is better than no known happy customer.
