Repairing a Rangemaster induction cooker
Repairing a Rangemaster induction cooker
Hello
I wonder if anyone can help with a problem that I have encountered regarding my cooker.
Now I have just moved over here and my wife and I have resided in Velez-Malaga for the past 7 weeks. During that time I installed a Rangemaster induction cooker which I bought in the UK and had it stored for 3 years (so warranty is out).
So now in the first time of using the new!! appliance the LED clock malfunctions, the main oven doesn't work because it requires the LED clock to function and 3 of the induction rings don't work either and those 3 rings each have an LED indicator displaying E6 that flashes continually.
I don't know of any companies that specialises in repairing these types of cookers and I wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar problem of locating a specialist or if they know of someone who mends them. I don't wish to send it back to the UK as it will work out more expensive to do this. Can anyone please advise as the cooker only half works and it seems so disappointing to not have the cooker not working to its capacity.
Many thanks

Welcome to the forum.
Have a look at https://www.rangemaster.co.uk/contact-s ... ice-spares
they can possibly advise on a service agent here in Spain,
Cheers

If you go onto rangemaster.co.uk and then go onto support at bottom of page there is a chat support. I am sure they can advise in case its a flat battery issue due to storage or advise on agents in EU

Hi Ramwraith,
Have you checked out the Mains supply to your house.........is it stable and in spec., with a good Earth..
Some sites show an E 6 error as relating to the Power Board.

Thank you Gerry. I'll take a look at that. I did try them out before and they weren't as forthcoming with any helpful advice. The person I got in touch with wasn't too sure on whether they had an international outlet in Spain. Thanks thoughgerryh wrote: ↑Sat Jan 08, 2022 10:32 am Welcome to the forum.

Re: Repairing a Rangemaster induction cooker
I think what Enrique said worth checking....
Re: Repairing a Rangemaster induction cooker
I did increase the wattage in the house from 3.5 kw to 5.5kw as I was asked by an electrician to increase the output so that the cooker would function. Apparently, total output of the cooker is 7 kw but that would be using everything on the cooker at the same time which won't happen. Would increasing the wattage be a viable option?
Re: Repairing a Rangemaster induction cooker
I assume the electrician checked all aspects of Electrics in the house... what Enrique is talking of nothing to do with kw...
These new consumer goods have all kindof built in safety so as was said a minor thing could cause... just like it is in new cars...

Re: Repairing a Rangemaster induction cooker
Hi Ramwraith,
Some facts about Spanish electical supply..........
Having monitored the Supply (Spanish)over many years it's 'not like what' you would get in UK.........
My records show it can vary from 190volts (lights will glow dimmer than a Toc H lamp) to over 252 volts ..........this can play havoc with Kitchen appliances.
Depending on your Range Master model , installation instructions mention having a 45Amp breaker........
If your original potencia was only 3.5Kw then the House wiring could be suspect.......this is going on our 3.3kw setup where the original owner only had electric lights.........I've seen better wiring in a child's dolls house.

Re: Repairing a Rangemaster induction cooker
I do agree Enrique... The wiring I have seen in our house is atrocious to say the least. We have 4 dead sockets on one side of our kitchen wall which I cannot trace back to the fuse box because of the thick walls. I did however fine a 40 amp wiring setup for a larger appliance located at the box and managed to locate that wiring to a location in the kitchen which is where my cooker is located at now. So the property is geared up to take a larger usage
Re: Repairing a Rangemaster induction cooker
If you didn't bring a large cooker cable directly to the cooker i think you need to do this... you could likely do an experiment with a smaller cable just in case it is the cooker...Ramwraith wrote: ↑Sat Jan 08, 2022 1:04 pm I do agree Enrique... Re: Repairing a Rangemaster induction cooker
Yeah.. I did that, firstly with a 6mm cable and then with the required 10mm cable. Both gave the same problem
Re: Repairing a Rangemaster induction cooker
Worth checking on the size/ condition of the main cable coming into your house.
When I moved into our campo house if I wanted to use my electric welder I had to tell my wife not to use anything in the house.
Even then if there was a light on it would dim.
All got sorted by getting my potencia upped to 8.8 KW and a new mains cable to the house.
I had already rewired everything inside the house.
Cheers

So it could be the possibility of increasing my electricity?Ramwraith wrote: ↑Sat Jan 08, 2022 3:07 pmgerryh wrote: ↑Sat Jan 08, 2022 3:02 pm Worth checking on the size/ condition of the main cable coming into your house.

Re: Repairing a Rangemaster induction cooker
To increase your electricity you might well need a new cable for your house.
A competent/ fully qualified and authorised Spanish electrician should be able to advise.
Cables have a current capacity limited by the size of the cable.
Cheers

Re: Repairing a Rangemaster induction cooker
I doubt that increasing the potencia would help. The potencia fuse trips when the total load is exceeded and the whole house loses power. That’s not your problem though. Increasing the potencia does not change anything to do with the cooker. If the cooker was on too small a fuse it would just trip its fuse and go off, it would not just show an error code.
Everything you have said so far suggests that the fault is in the cooker. Call one of the many companies that fix appliances. They may have to order the parts but they are usually pretty good at diagnosing a problem and most do not charge an exorbitant call out charge.

Re: Repairing a Rangemaster induction cooker
Have you Googled your model and error number 6 that comes up on the hob? Just a quick look brings up this:
E6 error code on the Rangemaster induction hobs is a power board fault.
On the induction hobs you have 4 plates and 2 power boards. As each boards 2 rings.
So the side thats giving the E6 error code needs the power board replacing and that will cure the fault from there for you.
