Air conditioning unit

Postby RaybertK » Mon Jan 24, 2022 11:19 pm

Hi everyone,
I have a 3 bed 70m2 bungalow in Torrox pueblo that I am looking to keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter using a hot/cool air conditioner unit fixed in my living room. Need advice on if this the most suitable heating /cooling system I should install on a property of this size or are there alternatives that are more economical/efficient
Thanks,
Ray.

The last time i was over i was chatting to a guy and he mentioned i think was "heat exchangers"... I remember he said a basic unit used 0.4kw electricity and gave something like 2.5kw of heat... it also works in reverse in the summer... i wasn't really too interested as i am sorted heat wise.
I do want to know more as that's me so i be over next week and hopefully meet with him...

Likely others here know...

Hi Cadiz,
Thanks for your reply. Yes " heat exchangers" sound interesting. Please let me know how your meeting with him goes. I to will be over in Spain next week and would like to follow up on this idea.
Ray.

A friend of mine swears by heat exchangers. He has them in his house in Sweden but not in his house in Spain. We use air con in Spain, supplied and fitted by Klimacentro in Torre del Mar.

It is. And it IS a heat exchanger. You could splash out a lot more on a "heat pump" that also heats your hot water, but as we are talking about the mildest climate zone in Europe and a pre-existing small property there's not much to be gained. When your boiler dies and needs replacing, you could consider one that has its own "bomba de calor", and that will not break the bank.

We have found aircon inverters the best heating source here. We used to have mobile electric radiators but the aircon is more efficient. We barely use the log fire now. (There is a thread on here about heating a house with info about pellet fires as well.) Be aware that each room will need aircon units though. The warm air does not seem to travel outside of the room it is in.

We need heating for longer than the cooling. Our bedrooms and bathroom are about 14 degrees at the moment and we are on about the same level as Torrox Pueblo. We have a conservatory so that when the sun is out that is pleasantly warm and we use that during the daytime, unless like now it is cloudy and chilly and we end up indoors with the heating on.

Is an “inverter” the same as a “heat exchanger”? In spanish how do I distinguish between the technologies? For example I want a heat exchanger a/c solution.

All aircon units use heat pump technology. Almost all now use inverter technology and produce both hot and cold air.

Seeing your now the expert in this area can i ask...
Assuming there is no need to adjust would this be an option for a large room for ventilation purpose only.
I am talking of a one room square space 900 sq ft 80+ sq metre...
What you think...

You will probably need two units for a room that size, one at each end. All the mainstream units are much the same as each other. What is quite expensive is the installation for costs so shop around.

The cheap supermarket options are also pretty good and are all installed by specialists.

It’s not rocket science, fridges and freezers have used the same technology for years.

Make sure you electricity supply can handle them. They don’t use much power when running but the startup loads can be high and trio your ICP.

Our rooms are small so one unit per room is more than enough for us. Your one room is about the size of our entire house! We only have 4.4kw potencia and can have both units on at once without any problem, but then we do not usually have anything else high powered on (we do not have an electric cooker or kettle for example).
