Building company needed - Albox area)

Postby Mikey-essex » Fri Feb 24, 2023 9:28 am

Hi all
Can anyone recommend a contractor to do few renovations on our place?
Complete pool refurb incl pipes, filter & pump (retile)
New kitchen fitting
New metal fence and sliding gate
External tiling
Also want few external lights and little extras

Have you tried asking around in the local bars? Most of the people we have used came from recommendations through talking to a bar owner, they know anyone and everyone who are in trade.

Hi Pamela

Thank you for the tip, no we haven't. It is a bit tricky when we still permanently in the UK. But will try on a visit to the place.

Hi Mikey-essex,

Have a look on FaceBook for Groups in your area.................

Example...........
Albox Chatter
Albox

Ask in local Builders merchant.............

Don't rush into these projects..............get your boots on the ground and do thorough research.

We have used local Spanish builders over the past 20 years.
All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

Unfortuntately some of the local Spanish companies rip off the foreigners too, not just cowboy Brits. Our German neighbour has been charged a huge amount for some work which on the whole has been very shabby and will need re-doing. We've had some awful exeriences with so called Spanish 'building companies' who were totally unprofessional (found men standing on our dining room chairs to plaster walls, and nothing at all covered up or moved out of the way - in a rental property so out of our hands, but our own furniture! Plumbers using my bath mat to mop up spills having removed the toilet .... yuk!)

We've used British builders who use Spanish labourers who have done a good job. There's a mix of good and bad in all nationalities (Swedish neighbours were treated terribly by their Swedish builder). I would try to get recommendations from people who have had work done and are pleased with the price and results.

We have used a Spanish company for air con who were brilliant. I tried to use 2 different English companies because of the language barrier but they just looked for the easiest way to get it done and were expensive. Put the unit in the easiest place and use loads of trunking. I dont do trunking.

We now have everything done by an english company but they have been on the coast 18 years and have a good reputation. We have had a few problems but they always sort with no quibble.

Defiantly do some research and ask around before employing as you would in the UK.

Thank you for the replies
Well, so far we had nothing but let downs and time wasters.
If anyone can recommend someone reliable and reasonably priced we would be very grateful.
We do not mind waiting a little while but as mentioned here earlier, noone can really afford to do a job twice, specially if overpriced.
For our pool we are going with piscinaliner, they may be a little dearer but good reputation and 10 year guarantee on their work.

Any suggestions or tips please shoot. Appreciated in advance.
Thank you very much
Mike & Misha

Have you been into the local suppliers in your area? they often have business cards pinned to a board or if you ask they may be able to give you names and tel numbers.

The sales guy in a bathroom centre in Malaga gave me 4 numbers of people who they recommend as fitters. All companies with a good reputation and no kick back to the shop financially.

Same costakid..When we wanted to tile part way up the outside of the house the guy in the tiling store gave us a list of names & contact numbers, he warned us that we might have to wait because they were always busy..We got several quotes and the person we chose did a first class job.

A good tradesman is always busy. Beware of the ones that are not!

I hear you, it is the same everywhere.
Looks like plans to have the place ready for this summer are out the window now.
It will get done eventually I guess 🤔
Anyway, any recommendations please let me know, thanks everyone

I know the area and suggest that you contact Construcciones Angel Oller in Albox. Good luck.
