Dama de noche question
Dama de noche question
Have a la dama on our terrace. Potted about a month or two ago. And its just started to drop its leaves. Looks healthy otherwise. Googling doesnt real tell me anything Can anyone advise as to whether this is normal or what the prob may be
Re: Dama de noche question
They do tend to drop their leaves over winter, but with it being a mild one this year, some of our branches have retained their leaves while others have dropped off! New shoots and leaves are also starting to grow - poor thing is confused. As long as your twigs still have green, flexibleness and have not gone rigid and dry, you should be all right. Take a note of how wet your pot is ... they do not like to be very wet, survive quite well in hot dry conditions, so let it dry out a bit if you have it wet, or if it is exceeding dry give it a bit of water.
We often have a situation where a couple of branches will just die off for no apparent reason, but the rest of the plant stays healthy. We do prune our plants into shape from time to time as they tend to get a bit leggy, so now is the time to prune, if you want to.

The best advice i can give you is i think they be more cozy indoors with lots of attention.
They can be a bit sensitive bit that's the way it is.
Feed them with chocolate and red wine and they will shed their leaves naturally.

Re: Dama de noche question
Ours have never got berries or seeds ... ours were already planted out in the garden when we arrived over ten years ago and we have only lost one which was in a particularly dry patch during a drought. The others are fine and one is practically a tree now, 8 ft high, and needs pruning to tame it. If you can plant it in the ground it may be happier - a touch of frost some years has seen all the leaves drop off but come spring they bud again and come back to life. Flowering seems a bit random, usually a couple of times per year, and usually at the back end of the year, to compete with the smell of the Loquat/Medlar trees. The smell is really potent in the evening and into the night - hence its name! The flowers are really a bit insignificant being about an inch or a bit more long, with a slight bell shape at the end, in bunches, very pale yellow, almost green colour which blends in with the leaves, but you know it is is flowing when the smell wafts across - nothing quite like it!
