I have been using "Kaspersky Internet Security" for the last two years.
It is due for renewal next month.
( I only need "1 Device" to be covered.)
I purchased my current one directly from Kaspersky ( it was a good price, for 2years cover)
I note that there are "1 year" Kaspersky subscriptions on Amazon, at good prices.
Is it safe to order from Amazon?
( I always used to order my "Norton" A/Vs from Amazon, with no probs )
I am still thinking about possibly replacing Kasp. with Bitdefender,(as per my previous posting).I'm just looking at what the options are .
Any advice welcome.
Cheers
JB

Re: Kaspersky
Russian company hq in Moscow.
The Russians are into cyber attacks and attacks on other countries eg Ukraine.
There must be other products around. Enrique will be along shortly with a recommendation or suggestion.

Re: Kaspersky
Rapid update:
Have found a very good deal from Bitdefender
( actual Bitdefender source,not Amazon)
I Will go with that I reckon.
Thanks Olive. As it happens,my decision is nothing to do with the "Russian" thing.( Although I totally agree with you re avoiding Russian products )
Bitdefender & Kaspersky are both highly-rated.My decision is based on 1) price 2) Best 1 device package.
Cheers JB

Hi jonbar.1

Re: Kaspersky
I ditched third party AV some time ago In favour of Windows AV
Don’t take just mine or Enrique’s word for it, the magazine Computer Active had a feature on it recently and advised their readers to do the same.
Completely agree with Olive, even though Kaspersky denies anything untoward, I definitely would not take the risk.

Re: Kaspersky
There were hit pieces on kaspersky many years ago in the early 00's. Lots of places in the uk refused to stock it for a while. I used it for many years before ditching windows altogether. Althoigh at thst time windows own A.V wasnt recommended unlike today
Re: Kaspersky
Thanks Enrique,Mark and Elusive.

What else ( "Firewall" ?) do I need?
Rember chaps: I have the computer know-how of the average wasp,so please keep it simple

Re: Kaspersky
Hi jonbar.1,
Windows comes with a Firewall which runs automatically .
You will need to remove Kapersky using "Add or remove programs" if not all the Kapersky applications removed you will need to run the Kapersky removal tool

Thanks again

Re: Kaspersky
JB, I've read and assumed that uninstalling AV apps tends to leave behind traces that won't necessarily be removed by an uninstall. I have no experience of Kapersky but there might be registry entries, snooping background services and log files remaining behind. To this end I use free licence WinASO and CCleaner to tidy the registry and remove any redundant files left behind after uninstalls - belt and braces if you will. I doubt this will be necessary in your case but if you have problems installing or running future AV apps it might be something to consider. Either way, I bow to Enrique's superior technical know-how in this regard...

Re: Kaspersky
Hi,
Tread carefully..............I'm not a fan of "Optimizers" and don't recommend them.
For uninstalling programs I use Revouninstaller (free) this just focuses on the program to uninstall and removes registery and files associated with the program you're uninstalling.
CCleaner ...............only use to tidyup temporary, log and memory dump files.
Screagle ............always welcome other Members input on Computer issues...........
With jonbar.1's answer we need to keep it simple .............. remove Kapersky, Reboot, and ensure Windows AV and Firewall are up and running.
