Buffering

Postby fincalospinos » Mon Sep 19, 2022 8:41 am

I have a Samsung Smart TV and recently signed up for a ( Legal ) UK TV package, and have been experiencing buffering, particularly on live feeds.

I have fibre optic Internet and carried out a speed test and got the following results:

Ping - no reading
Download - 120 mbs
Upload 39 mbs

I would have thought this ample download to avoid buffering.

Is there something else I could check.

Hi fincalospinos,

You don't say how the Smart TV is connected........... if by WiFi what is the signal strength where the TV is situated. :?:

Can you connect TV direct to the Router with Ethernet cable. :?:

Stream at a lower resolution................

Run a tracert (Windows CMD) to your TV service provider and check the timings through each Hop...........

Should be 20 -30 ms or less............ mine to bbc.co.uk is showing 12ms
You're looking for where the bottle neck is
.
All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

When you say legal UKTV are you referring to using the UK catchups via a smart DNS server?

I've been having issues this week both on my TV and firestick, I use unlocator.com.

Unlocator say they are aware of the issue and are working on it to resolve.

Today it's working OK.

Last night my wife was trying to watch Strictly on catchup and it was going fuzzy and then buffering repeatedly.

Recently I had Fibre installed and was given a new router that supports Wi-Fi 6 by my ISP. Since then, any little glitches I had with buffering has gone. My Firestick also supports Wi-Fi 6. I have read that Wi-Fi 6 helps improve the signal so it might be worth looking into this possibility.
