Information in the U.K. and on Wikipedia would indicate that if you can receive the Sky Network then you should be able to receive Freesat. You need the Freesat set top receiver of which there are various models. All include the capability for HD, and assuming that your Television is HD capable away you go.

Just to expand you need a HD not SD(standard def) freesat box. Currently here in the UK you can buy a Humax or one of the three Alba brands which are basically the same inside , Goodmans Grundig or Bush. They are 120-150 pounds. You connect to a HD tele using a HDMI lead to get the HD quality on BBC HD and ITV HD but there is not much other than the football at the moment. Installed a Goodmans for my parents last week and was quite impressed with the quality of the BBC preview that was running.

No, they do not. There are both HD and SD models available.

Typically the HD versions are £150 and the SD versions about £50

I don't think there are many High Definition programmes yet.
Personally I would wait until there are more and the High Definition boxes are available with Hard Drive recording capabilities.

Anyone got any real experience of Freesat HD yet? We've got visitors who could bring a box from Blighty next month if we're quick.

We're not far from Monda if that's significant.

Pleased to report that I got a Humax Freesat HD box, plugged it in, waited a few minutes then it worked. I haven`t counted the channels but it`s a lot and the picture quality seems good.
It cost £149.

Not yet but there will be one soon.

Have a look at The Freesat recorder should be available later this year. There are some details here
http://www.satbuyer.co.uk/humax-foxsat- ... x-p24.html

At the moment the main HD channels are BBC HD with quite a lot of content. ITV HD with not a lot and C4HD with a lot of content but most of it is old stuff rebroadcast in HD so not of the same quality as the stuff the BBC turn out.
