Vodafone keep calling me on my landline saying they can upgrade my phone line by just sending a technician round etc etc
Our urb is 10kms from town and have always been told its not possible to have ADSL by landline as infrastructure not in place and never will be and only have normal line and extra slow connection, even had Telefonica here a year ago saying cant even get RDSI(?).
Has anything changed or just the usual salesperson who knows nothing.

Re: ADSL question
Bongtrees, we were in the same situation a year ago, but now have 6mb ADSL!!!! If I remember rightly, there is a facility on telefonica's web site, where you an put in your telephone number and it will tell you if adsl is available and at what speed.
I can spell but I can't type

Re: ADSL question
Telefonica tell me that I can get 6mb. Currently I´m signed up to 3mb and even with the wind blowing in the right direction, I´m lucky to get 1.7mb!!

Re: ADSL question
Hi,
3 -3.6mb is a good speed especially if you're downloading a lot.
With any line based system is always going to be "upto" whatever speed they quote as it depends on how far you're from the exchange and the state of the wires
Some of the perceived speed will be down to how the computer handles the downloaded info. Looked at a system the other day, 3.4mb download speed so would have expected a "sharp" response to any internet activity but found it felt very slow compared to my .7mb connection (note the .) and this was due to the system having limited memory and fragmented hard drive.
So if you have a system that's been around for a bit some "house keeping" and some more memory will restore back to its former glory.
Before your eyes glaze over there are some free products out there that can do the housekeeping without you needing to put the wizards hat on.
If you look down the computer posts by some of the "real gurus" on this forum you will find some very useful info. Just stay away from "uniblue" software.
