Hi,
I've just bought in Marbella a Movistar 3g gongle for travel and when you lug it in, the only software that comes up are .exe windows installers and nothing for the Mac. Can't find anything on the web and I'm hundreds of miles away from Marbella. ON the back the dongle says HUAWEI E1612
Any ideas?
thanks

Is there a Movistar shop anywhere near where you are at the moment ? A cyber cafe or computer shop who might know ? Sorry can't be more help - our dongle is a vodafone one (tho I suspect it might be a Huawei one) and we have windows
Or do macs have an 'explore' function where you can see what else is on the dongle ?

Hi sunkissed,
Had a search on the web, not finding any useful info so far, what version of MAC OS have you got
Saw something saying that Movistar might have modified driver software.
Not listed on HUAWEI site as a current product, but then the site isn't that helpful anyway .
Will keep looking, any other info on "the box" that it came in
Added: a few of the links talk about Huawei universal drivers........

Thanks. I´ve tried the links before and still no good and the zip file mobileconnect comes up as failed to unzip when dowloaded. I think I shall have to wait until I get return and take it back and ask why they said in FNAC it would be fine on a Mac. I have a different modem for another country and that one works fine when I´m there and it´s also the same company modem though different network carrier. Tried swapping the card inside with the ohter modem but it asks for an unlock code

Hi sunkissed,
Interesting the .zip file failing to unzip ok, I did down load it and unzipped it ok, some .pdf manual files and directory with .pkg files. As I'm on a XP system I stopped there.
On the installation for MAC says there should be a CD with drives on.

Re: Movistar 3G dongle won't work on Mac
Hi,
I've come back now and downloaded a new unzip file application and installed the latest mobile connect app
and it asked for the pin but failed to dial up
On the one I use for Portugal (Kanguru) it automatically works on the old mobile connect, but on Movistar Spain it looks like I will have to try and configure the setting settings as per http://blog.evandavey.com/2008/02/how-t ... modem.html .
Are you supposed to to put *99# before the number?
thanks

Hi sunkissed,
The way it reads , its just that ........ *99# .........no number
You may have to Google around for more info.
Came across this info.........
Operator: - Telefonica (Movistar)
GPRS APN: - movistar.es
Username: - movistar
Password: - movistar
