Mobile Phone Top Up

Postby Bugsbunny » Thu Jun 10, 2010 9:46 am

Morning all! I need to top up a pay as you go Spanish mobile phone when I come back over on Wednesday. It's Vodaphone. Can anyone tell me where and how this can be done apart from going to the mobile phone shop on Calle San Miguel?

I'm on contract in the UK so really don't know much about the 'top up' procedure.

Thanks in advance,
Bugs

Your local supermarket will do it. All they need is your phone number. Takes seconds.

Nice one thanks. My Spanish is pretty basic - hopefully the right sort of hand gestures will get them to understand what I'm after.... :problem:

If you have a Spanish bank account you can do it at the cash machine. If you have online banking with the Spanish bank then most banks have the facility to do it online.

Normally I use the atm and my spanish card to top up, but today my card wouldn't do it, so I tried my nationwide card, that wouldn't do the top up either so I went into the movistar shop, they did it there for me !

Has anyone ascertained whether it is possible to top up at an ATM using Nationwide card ?

We will be staying in a small village that does not have a large supermarket

Another question if I may, how long is a Vodafone number active without top up before being cut off

Apologies I do not speak Spanish

Not sure about vodafone, but it's probably the same as Movistar, which is 6 months. Once you put even just 5 euros on, all the credit rolls over for another 6 months.

I'm afraid I've no idea about the ATM side, as we have a Spanish bank account & top up thro that :)

You can top it up on Vodafone's web site

https://tienda.vodafone.es/frontalRecar ... cation=tol

Where is says Número de móvil - Type in your phone number then click the box next to Tarjeta bancaria then click on Continuar.

Simples!

I have a Vodafone PAYG - I don't know if they are all the same, it may depend on your individual plan, but with me I have to top up every 9 months - €5 will suffice. If you don't top up after 9 months, you can continue to receive calls for 3 more months. After 12 months of no top up, you can lose your number.

I have never managed to top up at an ATM using my Nationwide card - I have always had to use a Spanish card.

Hi Spanish Lad

Thanks for your response. Excuse my ignorance, how does it work, just give money and phone number ?

yeah thats the one, basically. give them the number, tell them 10€ / 20€ whatever, tell them the network, and they do it on a credit card type machine, done and dusted in 20 seconds

copy this and show them :

" una recarga de 10€ * por mi movi de movistar* por favor, el numero es 67x xxx xxx* "

obviously substituting the * for the amount you want and the network you are on and your phone number.

grey variety or not, we are still helpful here
