I was talking to a chap in the market yesterday about connecting some old IDE drives to a sata only computer, I only want to copy some files from them not run them permanently. He told me it plugs into a USB port, was that flannel or is there such a thing and if there is what's it called?

What's it called.
Re: What's it called.
It's called a IDE to Sata adaptor, amongst other names.

That's more like what he was referring to. Quick and easy.
Simply attach the IDE harddrive, molex power connector and the other end into a spare USB socket.

Hi mhic,
One way to go ,put the IDE hard drive in to an external HDD enclosure and connect it to the computer using the USB cable supplied.
I use Akasa integral HDD external enclosures.....................

All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.
