Astra 1N

Postby Lyric » Fri Oct 28, 2011 10:44 am

For those interested 1N has started test transmissions of C4HD.
11127 V 22000 FEC 2/3

It is much stronger than 2D in Torrox

Not a fair comparison as C4HD is not on Astra 2D - it's on Eurobird.

That said it does seem to be pretty strong. I am getting 100% quality compared to 80% quality on 2D. C4HD on Eurobird struggles to get over 40%.

It will be interesting to see it it stays that way. They do have the option to alter the power and the footprint and it's not entirely clear whether they are using the spot beam or the wide beam. It is still transmitting on both satellites. It will be interesting to see how long it is before they transfer it over to the Freesat EPG.

I wouldn't cancel the big dish order yet!

its still testing, before channels actually go live, and that c4hd is now encrypted.
but it is a nice and stong signal even for me and my 80cm dish
reports are that those in eatern europe and italy are struggling to get it...i suppose its down tot he fact of the footprint of that partricualr beam not being designed for "eastern" pentetration, but wester penetration, when the bird was designed for placement at 19east...for spain and the canaries.

C4HD is already on the Freesat EPG, and has been for a few months now.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it

Yes I know it has but I meant when will they switch the new transmission over to Freesat and I posted that before they encrypted it.

At the moment clearly you get C4HD from EB1 and the new test frequency via the non Freesat option.

You cnnot get the new test frequency from 1n via nonfreesat mode on a freesat box , as it is encrypted...no sky cards are able to open it either at the momemnt..it was only free to air for a few hours....and that may not be the actual frequency it finally sit on...

So presumably when it duly appears on the Freesat EPG with a new frequency we can assume it is all tested and working UK. The signal quality hopefully will be the other indication that it has changed over.

I've seen, but can't find now, a press release from SES which the channels we expect to transfer "will transfer within the next few days with no change in frequency, viewers will not notice"

I think this is the one you mean. It was an email response from SES to a forum member on a satellite forum.

Dear Sir,

this is to confirm that NO ASTRA 2D transponders has been transferred to ASTRA 1N.

C4 and ITV will start on 1N in the coming days. This will be completely transparent to consumers as there will be no change in frequencies.

Best regards

Doesn't really say a lot does it! We will just have to wait and see.

Well C4HD will be defintely moving from Eurobird1 to 1N.
And rumour bout film4hd, r4hd and e4hd and m4hd becoming free to air and on satellite - but nothing confirmed.

As for ITV, well, you can say tha the "free to view" versions of ITV1 on freq 11973 and 12402 that currently require a sky card to view will also move FTA and move from their astra 2 south beams to 1n.

And, although nothing has been said, a strong rumour about the "five channels", apart from five HD, moving and also becoming fta and no longer sky card required.

Nothing really happens over weekends, but start to expect something to happen from the 1st Nov....

thats shows just one of the three known beams on the satellite....
and if the C4HD tests are on that "uk" beam, then that map is way way way off...as i can receive it on my 80cm dish...yet that "theorietical" maps suggetss my 2,.4m dish should just get it!...

until channels are actually placed and up and running then nothing is certian...

PS c4hd is FTA again!!!

I'm getting a number of Sky channels on:

11171 H, DVB-S2, QPSK, 23000, 9/10

90% signal strength, 100 quality.

Most scrambled but Sky News clear.

Now changed to DVB, Symbol Rate 22000, receivable on ordinary FTA receiver.
Let's go Brandon!
