Sounds like your drive is dodgy m8, they're easy & cheap enough to replace

I'm wondering if this is a Driver issue, you could check to see if there is a more up to date driver than the one you currently have.

There are seperate lasers for CD & DVD. If it burns CD's ok then the drivers & are fine, the DVD side of the laser is faulty.

I had this problem with a laptop about four years ago, in the end I bought an external
CD DVD writer. I bought a Liteon which accepts any type of disk (but not blu-ray) it is
brilliant and has not spat out a disk yet. It just plugs into a usb socket. It cost me about £40 but are now about half that price now.

The model below is a similar model.

Maybe this would get you out of a fix for now.

Thanks all. I am not really "in a fix" - I was just trying to do what everyone else seems able to do :lolno: and also not have to wait another month until I can get my hands on the DVD I want (and maybe save myself 10 quid in the process...).
No worries, I shall just have to be patient and not be so tight

Connect your laptop to the tv & watch your films that way, mucho easier

These days most people don't bother recording to a dvd disc in dvd format. To me your best bet would be to buy a cheap stand alone normal dvd (you know the ones that go under the TV) for 30 quid and copy your downloads to a USB stick without having to convert them...In the end in will be cheaper too

Until the screen saver or the power saver kicks in and the PC screen goes off or starts the screen saver!
BTW - please don't reply with "then switch them off then!"
but perhaps more like - "then switch them off then by doing this....."!!
