Anyone know how to copy vhs tapes to disc, I'm assuming it's much the same as coping from a camera.

Re: VHS to disc
The main bit of kit you will need is a video capture device. Years ago this involved fitting a card inside the PC, and they were expensive. Now you can get capture devices that just plug into a USB port. Use it in conjunction with Windows Movie Maker or other similar software. My capture device did come with some software, but it was rubbish.
I bought mine from Aldi a year or so ago. Quality of the captured video isn't great but that may be because some of the tapes are 30 years old. I can't remember what I paid for it but if you go to Amazon and search for "video capture" you will find them starting from £5. You will probably have to buy the cables to attach to your video player separately. Amazon have them as well.
If you have a lot of tapes and want them all transferring to the PC, be prepared to spend a long time doing it. They transfer in real time. Of course, you could be selective and just transfer the bits you want rather than transferring the whole lot then post editing.
Good luck with it. We have found it worth doing. Our grandchildren loved watching their mother in a dancing show, aged 2.

I've got an inferiority complex, but it's not a very good one!

Looks like a wander on Amazon for the bits needed.
Thanks.

Re: VHS to disc
I had lots of tapes to copy, so I bought a dedicated unit:

easy-to-use and great quality!

Pinnacle stuff is pretty good. I haven't dried the Dazzle but I did have a Pinnacle card which was fine - doesn't work now under W7 though. Their software (Studio) is really good.

Re: VHS to disc
If the VHS tapes have been stored for a while, it is best to run them through to the end and fully rewind, to prevent any slight juddering due to the tape having stuck to itself in storage.

Re: VHS to disc
Several years ago I had Pinnacle Studio. In those days it was running on Windows XP or earlier. I was impressed with it then so assume it is even better now. Haven't used it for a few years as it was in a PC I passed on to my daughter when we moved to Spain. It is now long gone.
