Mozilla Thunderbird 2!
Mozilla Thunderbird 2!
When trying to send an email I get this error message.
Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server secureserver.net timed out. Try again or contact your network administrator.
I have contacted my boss(network administrator) and the settings for my outgoing server are correct.
My own hotmail and gmail work fine.
Any suggestions as to what the problem could be?

Re: Mozilla Thunderbird 2!
Hi pilgrim2,
Can you receive mail on Thunderbird
Have you temporary switched off your Firewall to see if that is blocking the port.
Some light reading that may help..................

Re: Mozilla Thunderbird 2!
I assume you meant you are running Thunderbird 12?
Are you running Avast?
If so disable the shields for 10 minutes and try sending a message.
Cheers

Hi Pilgrim2,
Thought your "work" would have supplied a Port number they are listening in on.
Port 25 can be a problem with some ISP's

Re: Mozilla Thunderbird 2!
the settings we use are:
port for incoming (pop) - 995
port for outgoing - 465
make sure ssl is selected
login name is xxxxxxxx
outgoing server requires smtp authorization (but not spa)

Re: Mozilla Thunderbird 2!
Have you put the correct settings in when you set Thunderbird up ? Check...........
"Make sure you are using the correct Thunderbird settings:
* Incoming mail server (POP3/IMAP server): mail.yourdomain.com
* Outgoing mail server (SMTP server): mail.yourdomain.com
* Username: the full e-mail address like
* SMTP authentication must be enabled for the login to be successful.
A common mistake is to leave "My SMTP server requires authentication checkbox" unchecked. This option should be always enabled, since secure servers require such authentication."

Re: Mozilla Thunderbird 2!
Thank you Enrique will try all that later.
Re: Mozilla Thunderbird 2!
Incoming mail server (POP3/IMAP server): mail.yourdomain.com
- its just POP without the 3

Is this the same as ´Authentication method´ if not where do I find it?

Re: Mozilla Thunderbird 2!
Is it possible that my ISP (telefonica) would be blocking it? I have been busy googling:)
Thanks, that has been done, looks like I will have to wait till I go into work tomorrow to get it sorted.

Hi pilgrim2,
At least you will be able to ask the right questions having played around with the setup.
The following is a graphic example...I should imagine you're familiar with it now.
