Any electronic component stores in Malaga?
Any electronic component stores in Malaga?
Can anyone suggest an electronic components store, like the old Maplin used to be before it turned into a toy store? If not, I'll order online from Farnell or someone, but would rather shop in person.
Ideally nearer Velez but anywhere in the Malaga area really.
I'm looking for things like capacitors, connectors etc.
Thanks
John

Hi John
The only one I have found is in Malaga, near Carrefour.
Have a look at http://www.planetaelectronico.com/app/t ... to.do#%239

Thanks Gerry, I'll take a look.

Hi John
There is also a music shop, opposite the bus station in Torre del Mar.
They have some components, mainly switches, sockets and plugs.
Cheers

Yes, thanks Gerry, I know that one. Not sure they'll quite have what I want to be honest.
Re: Any electronic component stores in Malaga?
I've given in already and ordered some capacitors from the UK. They'll be here before I can find a shop that sells the ones I want (Mundorf MKP series). I'm recapping the crossovers of my current speaker restoration project
I still need some bits and bobs so will keep looking for a nearby one, or try Planeta Electronico.
Thanks again Gerry.

For future reference, have a look at Bitsbox. They are a UK outfit but have very reasonable postage charges to Spain and other EU countries.
Their selection isn't as wide as RS or Farnell but they stock a lot of the popular components

Re: Any electronic component stores in Malaga?
Thanks Pete. I used www.hificollective.co.uk for this order but I'll check www.bitsbox.co.uk out - always happy to help decent smaller companies.
Re: Any electronic component stores in Malaga?
Thanks again everyone. I went to Planet Electronico today. Very friendly and helpful. Spoke good English and was happy to help me with advice. Highly recommended and no doubt I'll be back there many times in the future.
Re: Any electronic component stores in Malaga?
Finally got my capacitors from hifi collective... They sent 9, instead of 10... They are sending the missing one out by Airsure but it still buggers up my weekend.
Desperately trying to find a shop that sells one today but not having any luck!

Re: Any electronic component stores in Malaga?
Managed to get 2 similar capacitors from the shop in Torre Del Mar (Mailing Electronica). Same value, just higher voltage. They'll do for now so I can do the project this weekend and then replace those two when the others arrive. Still a bit *beep* off with the UK company for making the error, but at least they are fixing it quickly and I have a suitable replacement for now.
Re: Any electronic component stores in Malaga?
For anyone else interested in this subject, I went to Planet Electronica again the other day to find out they were shut at 2 during Easter week... (this was 5pm)
As I was leaving I noticed there is another electronic shop on the other side of the road (ie, if you are stood at Carrefour looking towards Planet Electronica, it's on the row of shops to the left).
Very friendly. The guy didn't speak English but was happy to help (and one of his colleagues who was off does speak English). Useful to know there are two shops so close to each other.

Re: Any electronic component stores in Malaga?
Just wanted to mention that I found this shop the other day when I needed to buy a multimeter and some other bits and pieces:
http://www.electrocasa.com/
They are in C/Santa Elena, off C/Hilera, not far from El Corte Ingles. They probably don't have the same range of stuff as Planeta Electronica, but were easier for me to get to by bus and the chap there was very helpful.

Re: Any electronic component stores in Malaga?
That little store in Torre Del Mar, Mailing Electronica, have a surprising amount of stuff if you ask.
All the plugs etc. are on display but the components are are behind the scenes. Pretty much any standard parts they'll have. It's just the more unusual stuff, like higher quality components for specialist audio gear, that they don't keep.
I was glad to see the two stores in Malaga, I know where I'll be going the next time in the city
