UK mobile contract

Postby littleeak » Tue Jun 25, 2013 3:54 pm

My son's at Uni in the UK & is trying to get a mobile on contract. He went to several places only to be told that as he's lived out of the UK he will have to pay £150 deposit!!
Has anyone else had this problem & if so is there any way round it?

He has no credit rating, so will either have to pay up or get a PAYG mobile.
I think this is normal for people arriving in the UK with no credit history.
How did he get on opening a bank account? - That can be difficult, too!

certainly was White Horse................ not as easy as we thought!

He's had a savings account in the UK since he was born (moved to Spain when he was 10) so we went to that bank to ask about a student account.................. no chance due to lack of credit history. It was even suggested that he have a credit card to boost it!!!
In the end they changed his savings account to a current account & told him to return in a few months when he'd used it.
Hopefully he can convert to a Student account when he returns to the UK in September.

As for the mobile...............................!!!!

My wife works in the Uk but has no address as ,obviously , she lives here. She had to get her mobile through a relation. Yet the company that supplies her work, she is self-employed, opened a bank account for her , in her name & with no input from my wife whatsoever !

When my son moved to a rented flat the gas people wanted about £250 as a deposit as he had no credit history. Over time he has built it up (he went back to UK about 4-5 years ago), and now has no problems of that kind.
