remote access to wap router ?

I've been trying to do the above, without success.

I can access the wap router settings ok via Wi-Fi or hardwired because, I presume, the devices are directly connected to the router.

However, when I try remote access from a "third party" connection I can't.

I suspect the reason for this is because the Telefonica modem is "between" me and the wap router that I'm trying to remotely access.

I've got the "remote management address" for the wap router but it won't connect.

Does anyone have a simple explanation of how, or if, it can be done ? I've read the netgear instructions on this but "nada". As I said, I think the problem is the modem "in between".
