Film On - World Cup Coverage

Postby telboy » Tue Jun 17, 2014 6:14 pm

Through FilmOn - Why am I getting a Test Card with the message - Due to the restrictions imposed by FIFA this content is not available in your locality? It only appeared last night when I tried to watch Ghana v USA and now Belgium v Algeria

I am viewing FilmOn direct through internet via Iberbanda with only 1mb connection.

It is probably for the same reason that the Today programme on Radio 4 keeps going off like it did when the Olympics was on. I wouldn't mind but they switch it off for about half an hour in order to blank out a few minutes of a demented commentator screaming like a banshee followed by a couple of minutes of tiresome gibberish from some inarticulate and often unintelligible pleb.

I can get the programme back by activating my VPN by which time, thankfully, the football report is usually over. Perhaps the same would work for Filmon but if you are using Filmon I assume it is because you do not have a VPN.

I will check Filmon this evening if there is any football on and see if I get the same message with and without the VPN.

Just checked the football on Filmon. It is blocked, as you say, but it works with a VPN.

Or how FIFA managed to get their content blocked, but the actual broadcasters themselves cannot block their own channels from filnon....
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it

Exactly

It must be FilmOn themselves that are blocking the coverage via BBC and ITV, or is transmission being blocked here in Spain :?:

Cheers Enrique

May give Chrome with Zenmate later, however I'll need to read up on them first (dont know whether they effect on internet speed), as I said I only have 1mbp connection here in the campo (slow but surpisingly OK with FilmOn, hardly any buffering) plus using a MacBook Pro.

Hi telboy,
No need to "read" up .........fire up chrome.......search for Zenmate .....download and its added to the chrome browser.

Takes as long to do as reading the above............. :D

When you get Green shield, just check its connected to UK .

Might be the Swiss connection. I think Filmon cover Europe from Switzerland, where some streaming is legal. FIFA are also Swiss based, and give nothing away unless Blatter has a good bung in return. Maybe Filmon forgot the brown paper bag, and have to stop match cover to keep their Swiss legal status. Would explain why coverage can be received with a VPN, as UK transmissions are on free to air channels.

I have noticed recently that although I have Adtelly set up on Chrome (which now only covers BBC and ITV players) I don't need to go through it as I can watch them via normal Chrome. Somehow the adtelly VPN must be working all the time through the main browser window (I don't have any other sort of DNS or VPN set up). It looks like that will be the way we will be watching the England match tomorrow as it is not on Spanish TV this time. Other matches we have been watching on Cinco or Cuatro in glorious HD

I have just uploaded Zenmate but it has selected my server location as Switzerland. I can't see how to change it to the UK - any ideas please?

Hi Enrique

The options button is greyed out which I assume is where I can change the country.

Then it's not turned on. Click on the shield, at bottom left you'll see the change country option, then turn it on at bottom right.

I have found Filmon impossibly slow when Zenmate is turned on. So either use Filmon - which doesn't require Zenmate, or iPLayer/ITV player with Zenmate.

I'd go along with Miro on that config.......

I take it you're using the Filmon app/program an not going through the Browser.

If you really have a slow internet/system, temporary disable stuff like Skype, even turn off your Anti-virus...........will depend on how desperate you are to watch the program.....
