My Kindle is dead...update, alive

Postby oliveview01 » Sat Aug 30, 2014 6:41 pm

My Kindle has died, will not switch on, will not charge- nothing. It is possibly not worth repairing, been looking online- this one has a light in the cover- not that I use (or used) that much, so that is not really important. If I buy a new one can I transfer the books from this one on to the new one,and how do I do it? It is registered to the UK, but it refuses to let me download books from the UK as it recognised I was in Spain! They emailed me and threatened to cut me off! I did email and ask if my kindle had somehow been blocked-they said no. Where is the best place to buy here, on Amazon.es? Will they transfer the books from the broken Kindle onto it do you know? It will probably be my luck for them to say no as they were on the Uk one!!

Just looked at Amazon.es and Amazon uk - what a surprise, a Kindle Fire HD 8gb 89.00 pounds or 139.00€ bet the UK will not send to me here!

Tried to order on Amazon.co uk and guess what- will not ship here, I can go to the es page and pay 30€ or so more :wtf:  Son might be visiting in November, I think I will wait until then! I guess then there will be the hassle of getting the old books swapped over then!

I have just bought my new Kindle from amazon UK, I had to have it sent to UK address. I buy all my books from amazon UK without any problems. Easy to transfer your books. There is a drop down list asking which device you want them to delivered to. Kindle 1, Kindle 2, Kindle 3, Android device, 2nd android device etc...

When you get your new Kindle you will need to register it.
you can then go into your Kindle account and download all your existing books to your new device.
I can download the same book to my PC, both smart phones and my wife's Kindle.

All ok now- after searching the Kindle page on Amazon for any information on where to send them for repairs I noticed a bit about Kindle Help Community and looked at the ´frozen Kindle´ bit- held the on switch for 20 seconds, it then went to a blank screen and then rebooted, so no new Kindle needed. Still will not let me download to it from the UK though!! Next time I go back I will re-register it there (I was threatened with it being blocked if I did not change it to here!!) and spend the total time there downloading books!!

Gerry, you might be able to answer my question....
How do I change the log in/switch on password on my actual Kindle? No idea of the model number, it is an older one, it was left at the airport by a relation, who thought it was lost forever, she got a new one and then this one turned up, so I have it. The password is not easy to remember, so I want to change it

Sorry, not a clue as I never set a password on my wife's Kindle.
If I get time today I'll do a bit of Googling to see if I can find the answer.
I you asked the question on the Kindle Help Community forum?
Cheers

thanks to oliveview I read that the basic Kindle is now £59.00 and i am going to get one for my holiday trip.
I'll read anything but don't want to buy books,is there a site or sites i can use where i can download to the kindle easily bearing in mind I'm a technophobe.
Many thanks
