MIDI files etc

Postby morlandg » Sat Oct 04, 2014 5:30 pm

Do we have anyone who knows all about keyboards, computers and MIDI files?
I have a Casio MK 1250 keyboard and would like to record songs on the keyboard (6channels) and save to PC (windows vista) but be able to play them back on the keyboard etc

Would that be the WK Casio? I used to do MIDI files in a previous life. At that time I used Atari ST computer.
I may dabble again. If I do, I'll send a pm.

Dave - yes it is the WK 1250. I have a MIDI to USB cable and a laptop running W7 and a PC with Vista.
I'd appreciate any help you could give me.

First of all, don't splash out on an expensive midi recording programme. Try one of the free ones first. Most free ones limit you to 4 track recordings. If you can get your head round MIDI, you can then upgrade.

I'm looking at one called Kristal. What are you looking at? If you let me know, I'll download it and have a look.
As I said, I used the Atari ST. It was great for midi files but unfortunately the rest of the place I worked in went from BBC computers to PCs with windows. I changed job soon afterwards.

I bought myself a cheap keyboard (88 Key, Touch Sensitive, Hammer Keyboard MLP-1200) but it does support MIDI files so I'll play about with this over the winter.

The one I stumbled on is called Anvil. I'll have a look at Krystal.
Because my PC is in a small office and the Casio keyboard is huge, I put the keyboard in a spare room and connected it to my laptop running W7 using the MIDI cable I'd bought. I couldnt get Anvil to 'see' the keyboard. So I asked for help.
