Re: laptop question
Hello Bongtrees - our Acer's battery is limping ... it holds its charge for about 10 minutes and then abruptly chops itself off without warning !!! So we are running ok with it plugged in, and have actually taken the battery out and then run the laptop direct of the mains - so yes... it will run with a dud battery and it will run with the dud battery not even there - but you do need mains (or a generator! )
Not noticed any difficulty on starting it up - all OK.

Hola
If you try Ebay / Amazon then laptop batteries are cheap - I have bought several including a Toshiba battery in September this year

Re: laptop question
I ran my old laptop without a battery until I converted to mac without a problem. Never had to put the date in as I'm sure the software stores this type of data.

Hi costakid,
"Never had to put the date in as I'm sure the software stores this type of data."...it certainly is.
If the CMOS battery has expired too then the Time and date is not saved.
I have a very old Toshiba Laptop with both batteries failed.............
Still fire it up when MS office required.........
