This happened to my box in the early days of digital when a basic Sky digital box cost around €300. It cost me nearly €100 to get it fixed.

I found this:-
1. First unplug the sky box from the mains

2. wait at least one minute.

3. As you plug the socket back in press the BACKUP button on the box at the same time (not on the remote) and hold it.

4. Wait until all the lights come on the front of the box. then release button

5. Wait a full 10 minutes or until the lights go out then switch on from the remote.

After about a minute of showing the message "SEARCHING FOR LISTINGS", it should come back on to full service. (do not skip the 10 minutes, you will see the message on your TV. (Do NOT do anything in between or else you will lose all your saved programmes and recordings)
The above fix works 99% of the time when your box randomly won't switch on, becomes unresponsive, or packs up after a power cut or storm.
Note: you may need to try the remote a couple of times at step 5. Be patient and wait at least the full 10 minutes even if the lights have gone out.

Don't know about anyone else bit when we leave the house to go back to England I always unscrew the antenna from the box just in case it ever got hit by lightning. I know it may be very small chance but it only takes a second to do.
It always seems imposible until its done. Nelson Mandela

Has anyone had a go at moving their dish to be able to pick up the satellite near Gib ?

How difficult is it and what receivers do you recommend.
Coming over to La Herradura beginning of January, so want to have a go at D.I.Y. try to keep costs down to a minimum to be able to offer UK soaps etc. Not worried about sky sports etc.

Hope someone can help / advise

It's a bit more complicated than that and will involve some expense.
