Android TV Box Reposits

Postby john the baptist » Tue Jan 06, 2015 11:46 am

Does anyone happen to know which are the best android reposits/apps/programs for the IPTV boxes.

The main one i used does not seem to be working anymore.

It seems a bit of a rip off to send it off for an software update every 5 minutes.

Its a bit difficult to help as you have not stated what type of box you are using. There are a lot of forums out there that can help. I have a Minix 7 and the Minix 7 forum has recently helped me solve a problem. It is necessary to be quite specific, not working any more, covers a multitude of possible problems.

Hi off the top of my head the one channel and mash up no longer are working. The links seem dead.
The box is fine its the apps that are down or need updating.

A repository or 'repo' is an XBMC plug-in that can be produced by various individuals but rarely work properly at least not for very long.

A repository is like a folder on your windows PC.
Anybody can create a repository, if they can find a site to host it, and load file into it.
Anybody can view the contents of a repository, if they can find it, and download the files.
However there is no control of the legitimacy or quality of the files, they can be viruses.
The owner of the site might decide he doesn't want the repository on his site and delete it.
The person who created the repository might decide to move it somewhere else.
So repositories can be very hit and miss objects.
Generally speaking repositories are no for the faint hearted, you need to know what you are doing to make use of them and the files they contain.
Cheers

Sorry can't help you.
I gave up the fight to try and find ones that still existed, where up to date and contained files that where relevant to what I was looking for. :(

I like Gerry gave up some time ago. I have never liked these Android boxes because there are far too many problems. In the end I've come to the conclusion that XMBC is for amateur developers that never quite get it right. They were fine in the short term but now other better possibilities are coming to light.

Something like this tiny windows computer might be a better solution in the long term. Using it with ZenMate and chrome should give very good quality and plenty of flexibility.

HP have probably seen there is a market due to the amount of little android units being sold.

I still maintain apart from satellite, the NOW TV box is the best option.

Got to agree with Mark, the Now TV box is absolutely the best value around providing you have got the ways and means to get it set up. The picture quality is extremely good. I still use my android box, and for what I use it for ,it serves me well. When we first lost satellite transmissions, the Android box was the initial answer to our prayers. However things have moved on and now there is a multitude of solutions.
Remember the folks back in February saying that Spains internet infrastructure would not cope with the big switch over to IPTV? I don't seem to have been affected at all.

Of course you haven't Gerry, It was always ridiculous to think that Spain's internet infrastructure wouldn't cope.
The Spanish are major users of the internet and many use legal and illegal ways of watching sport, downloading films and USA series. The extra traffic was always going to be a drop in the ocean.

I use Unblockus Smart DNS.
5 dollars or about 3.80 euros a month
It must be set up on the router as there is no way to change the settings in the little box.

Yes, you need location masking of some sort, I use a VPN router with an annual subscription of US$ 51 or thereabouts. The advantage of the setup on a router is that all your other devices can use the system ( Kindle, IPad, Laptop etc.)

Hi Gerry

Do you buy the router set up, or is that something you can do to any router ? Cheers :)

A Smart DNS you have to set up yourself on the router but it's a very simple process. The benefit of this system is the flexibility of being able to use it wherever you are. I'm not sure if a VPN router can do this.I'm sure someone will give this info.

A VPN is offered free by UnblockUs and is free with the service. However, it is limited to the web sites they support and can't really be used like a normal one. Sometime in hotels it's needed.
