Re: Filmon
Why is it that a lot of posters on this topic assume that we are all techies? Can't things be explained a bit more clearly.
Re: Filmon
Please don't take this the wrong way.
If you don't understand what they are talking about then you won't be able to help them.
Sometimes things have to be expressed in a "techy" way.
Cheers

Re: Filmon
We live in the campo and only have 1mbps internet connection via Iberbanda.
Even with just 1 mbps we've never really had a problem with live TV via Filmon except with buffering at the beginning or end of a live program, I take it this is down to other Filmon users changing channels. It usually settles down after a couple of mins and we get to watch a complete program problem free. However just recently buffering has become persistant on all live TV channels any time of the day.
I was wondering whether this is due to Filmon making some sort of change, or something Iberbanda have done, I've checked our internet speed and this remains the same.
Cheers

Well, pure and unadulterated at the PC (hardwired) it is usually 7.9/1 again pure and unadulterated at the AndroidSolutions box it is about 7.4/0.9 that is a wireless connection due to internal and external geography and Senior Management not caring for wires.
With the supplied VPNs, with a tailwind it struggles to get to 4. Senor Latham has said that I could use a SmartDNS with his box but I can only see how to do this with a hardwired connection not wirelessly. My router is closed to me, I have no access (BB4S) he has not answered my e-mail.
Now Filmon just works, the quality is poor but it does work, hardly any buffering at all. I have taken to using the iPlayer just recently which is a far better picture. They seem to have tweaked the Android application recently and it has got better. It splutters and bangs, audio goes out of sync and buffers for the first few minutes then it seems to sort itself out and works seamlessly.
I do use the Filmon record facility most nights for future use.

Re: Filmon
Hi Lyric
I got so fed up of the erratic Android box and its befuddling software I just binned it (well took it back to the UK to play with it there). Yes, the seller was very helpful but it just didn't work consistently enough, or at high enough quality.
Eventually i went out and bought a Samsung Smart tv which can get all the UK TV apps and filmon app. Last time I was out (before BB4S souped up their speeds) that worked well for live tv and catch up. Even with the BB4S VPN.
Although I haven't done so yet (to avoid the slowing down caused by BB4S VPN) I understand I can install smartydns on the tv. If this is the case I wouldn't need smartydns on the router as well, would I?

Yes, it's pretty simple to install on the Samsung. The only device/system I have to use a VPN for is Sky Go on my iPad. The Now TV box, according to Mark, cannot accept DNS changes so the DNS has to be set up in the router.

Re: Filmon
Hi ashtondave,
You put the SmartyDNS IP on the Smart TV, you will need a computer to set up the SmartyDNS....
Unless someone has an update on this.

Is it still only the one range of Samsungs that can have their hubs changed?

Re: Filmon
If you are getting a lot of buffering on filmon, it might be better set a recording then download to your android device overnight. This will also work on a computer but not on the IPad etc.
