New computer W8.1

All my files are stored on an xtenaldrive but I am unable to openthem as it says I don't have permission to access them and to go tovsecurity settings. This I have done and changed thevsettings to those of the new omputer but it stll wn't allow access. An suggestions?I really want access to some of he files.
I've got an inferiority complex, but it's not a very good one!

ThanksEnique. I've been doing that for individual files as and when I have wanted then. Ometimes wokedi'll follow your link tep by step

All in one directory and they are pdf files

Hi Campo Steve,
Not got a Win 8.1 system on site but working on a Win 10 one..............

Right click on the Directory -> Properties ->Security ->Edit->Add
enter Everyone
Check Names ( as you seem to be having problems with your Keyboard..... :(
OK
Tick Full control box
Apply
OK

Success. Thenknyou Enrique by the ay, my "keyboardproblem" is because I am doing this typing on IPad mini and fingers a bit too big
