Chrome page unresponsive

Postby Wicksey » Fri Sep 04, 2015 4:23 pm

Anyone else experiencing problems with Chrome recently? It does sometimes give me the pop- up message of 'page unresponsive' and the choice to Kill or Wait, but usually starts working Ok again after a few minutes. Last couple of days though it's been a pig and all the content of the tabs disappears and I cannot do anything.

I am using IE now but I much prefer Chrome if I can get it to work (although I haven't yet managed to solve the sound problems I reported here a few days ago). I am halfway through downloading something so don't want to just close it all down but may have to as it's just constantly popping up the message of Page Unresponsive.

I have Googled the problem but still haven't got a solution to it. Is it just me?

Hi Wicksey,

Starting from the bottom...........Reboot your system.....

In both Windows Vista and Windows 7, users may restart their computer through the Start menu using the following steps: Click the Start orb in the lower left-hand corner of the Windows Desktop. Locate and click the right arrow next to the Shut down button. Select Restart from the menu that appears.

Are you still have problems........report back.

I close down the computer (using Star and then Shut down) every day and turn everything off, so presumably that means I do reboot it each day when I turn it all back on?

That is correct.

Right click on system bar that's the one at bottom of your screen and Start Task Manager.

That will tell you how many Processes you have running.
Look under the Performance tab and you can see the amount of RAM or main physical memory.

I have 65 processes running
CPU usage between 4 and 8%
Physical memory 69%

On the performance tab there is a little black box titled memory, with a figure of 1.3GB
Under the heading of physical memory (MB)
Total 1918
Cached 828
Free 1

Hi,
Thanks for the info..............

Try this...................

Right click google chrome shortcut.
Click on properties menu itme.
Click shortcut tab in the opened panel.
add this in target destination --disable-hang-monitor

to make it look like this:
"C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --disable-hang-monitor

There is a space between .exe" --disable-

Yesterday it worked perfectly all day until about 5pm when all the pages went blank again. I found that I couldn't close Chrome down at all (I went away and came back a bit later but it was all still there). So in the end I had to restart the computer and then it worked OK again. I am back on it this morning so I'll see how it goes.

I hate and abhor Google Chrome but I have to use it for a couple of things. Over the past year I found increasingly that Chrome would not open on either of my 64 bit Windows 7 PCs at the first attempt. I had to kill the process in Task Manager and try several times until it would finally open. No problem on the 32 bit laptop.

Now it will not open at all on either PC so I deleted it and installed Chrome Canary which, so far, works at the first attempt to open it on every occasion and has never crashed.
Let's go Brandon!

It's gone again and I can't close it down. I prefer the Chrome layout and tools and it always seemed to be a lot faster than IE. Not heard of Canary .... I Googled and it described it as being experimental. Oh well ... onwards with IE for now :(

On my "research" yesterday on a Chrome not starting problem....one wag had posted.

"solved ......I downloaded Firefox ".......... :D

I did sort my Chrome problem after removing three security programs from the system.......

Since I upgraded to W10, I am moving more and more towards Chrome. I find that IE11 is closing down frequently and actually has frozen the laptop completely several times, necessitating a manual restart.

I think this is a MS ploy to force people to use Edge (Paranoid Hat on!).

Of course Microsoft want people want people to use Edge. It's their latest browser.

In the main Edge is a decent browser and loads extremely quickly, and due to the fact Chrome is becoming slower and slower, it has become my browser of choice.

The one thing I don't like is more to do with the design, I cant drag it around the screen easily because there is no panel at the top,
