What on earth

I have not been logged onto my pc running wx for 3 weeks now. On return I find that my desktop includes an earth icon bottom RHS and what appears to be a black speech balloon top LHS. Can I remove them?

UPDATE
Upon closer inspection I think it is my monitor that is failing. Probably need a new one!!

You don't have anything magnetic close to the screen, do you? (Loudspeakers for instance)

No WH - nothing. We have a magnetic cat flap for our 3 cats but there is a feral cat that has worked out how to enter the house. The bottom RHS smells of tomcat pee but it's a 19" monitor so I can't see how he could reach the top LH corner. Maybe it's just old age (the monitor not the cat) and I will have to look for a new monitor.
