The UK National Lottery
Obviously, whilst residing in Spain I do not wish to play the UK National Lottery. However, I still have an account with them.
Even using the Private Internet Access VPN (set to London) The Lottery account can still detect that I am not in the UK and I cannot login. I have deleted any likely looking Cookies (just in case).
I suppose my query is, why isn't the VPN working for this site and/or how are Camelot getting around it?

Hi C M,
" Since 2012 Camelot's location software should now block the site to anyone who is not in the UK or the Isle of Man."
So guess they single out the VPN's IP range............
Came across this............one

Re: The UK National Lottery
That is interesting.
I would never try and play the UK lottery whilst being a resident of Spain. In the unlikely event of a large win I could not stand the earache I would get from the OH if we were disqualified and lost the money!

Re: The UK National Lottery
You have to be in the UK to play the UK lottery. That is in the rules. About 4 years ago someone was denied a winning payout because they purchased the ticket while out of the Country. Since then they have installed detection software to prevent you buying outside of the UK.
Re: The UK National Lottery
Presumably it is OK to buy a ticket as a non-UK resident whilst visiting the UK and still pocket the winnings?

Re: The UK National Lottery
No, I believe you need to be a UK resident. I haven't got time to check that at the moment but will look into it later. That would also preclude foreign tourists.

Re: The UK National Lottery
Hi,
"Can I play the National Lottery from overseas?
No, in order to play the National Lottery you need to be a resident of the UK or the Isle of Man at all times and must be physically located there to collect any prizes you win. Failure to meet this rule will result in your ticket purchase being declared invalid and no prizes will be paid. However you can bet against the National Lottery results by playing with an online with 2nd tier lottery provider from overseas as long as your local legislation allows online betting."

Re: The UK National Lottery
Their website says nothing about nationality or residency, simply "Players must be 16 or over and physically located in the UK or Isle of Man."
Nothing stopping anyone playing as long as they are there when they buy the ticket.

Re: The UK National Lottery
I stand corrected firsttango, but they leave themselves open to challenges by not putting it large and loud on the main page, burying it in the t&c.
Of course because of the stupidity of the UK not having ID cards a lottery outlet has no way of verifying the status of a punter with a winning ticket. With today's political correctness there would be very few brave enough to ask anyone simply looking "foreign".

shockingly Foreign looking people are allowed to be UK residents! Which is what you need to be to buy a ticket.and foreign looking people are actually british aswell! Having an ID card would be of no use to them. They could infact show then their NI card

Re: The UK National Lottery
My tongue was firmly in my cheek......of course a UK resident can be of any ethnic origin. My point was that no one carries ID there, and a lottery shopkeeper would not dare ask for any proof before paying out.

Re: The UK National Lottery
You only need id if you win over £2500. You can draw that amount in any shop. For the big wins you have to take passport and proof of address etc to Camelot in Watford.
