iPlayer radio downloads

Postby Parilla » Sun Dec 16, 2018 6:44 pm

I use "smarty dns" but can no longer ( from about 3 or 4 weeks ago ) download radio programmes to my Samsung tablet. "Smarty dns" works fine with the TV apps. I've been in contact with "Smarty dns" but they can't solve the problem. Does anyone have any ideas ? I have this weekend tried "smart dns" on their free trial, but it doesn't work, the problem is just the same - TV ok but no radio downloads.

Hi Parilla,

Please give an Example of the program you're trying to download and the App you're using.....

The BBC have moved a lot of options to their new BBC Sounds app. That may be why you are having problems.

The way I do it is to download the Smarty VPN app onto your tablet.
https://www.smartydns.com/vpn-app/
In the user settings in Smarty Dns you will find your user name and password. Make sure The location setting is set to London and click connect. Then it will work in both the new and old apps

A very big Thank You to all of you! Thanks to the info about Smarty App - I can again download from BBC radio. Although I did have the App, I have found that after use I need to Sign Out of the App and then - when opening it again - it gives me the opportunity to sign in to the VPN section (London) and then to the DNS. This seems to make all the difference. I had not bothered using the VPN as I always thought that BBC would not work if there was a VPN - but I clearly had that wrong! So now - with both switched on - I can do the downloads. So many thanks to everyone - your help is much appreciated.

It is a very useful app because using it avoids the necessity to update your IP settings while away from home.
