Password Protected ms word 2003 Document

Postby pensure1988 » Fri Jan 29, 2021 12:01 pm

Good Morning

Can anyone help me here. I have a Password Protected Word 2003 Document and I have forgotten the Password. Are there different ways in recovering this password or is it lost for ever. I have had a look on the Internet and I am confused more than ever now.

Thank You

David

Hi pensure1988,

Creating an RTF File

Open the locked Microsoft Word file. While you can't actually edit its contents, you do have the ability to save the file into a new format. Open the “Save As” menu by pressing "Ctrl-Shift-S" and select “Rich Text Format” from the drop-down menu. Name the file whatever you want and save it somewhere convenient. The RTF file will not retain the password protection

Good Evening

Thank very much El Cid as well as Enrique for your solutions to my problem. I used Enique's advice and managed to open my Document. I have since changed the Password and written it down somewhere.

Forum experts always seem to give very good advice. Keep up the good work. It is highly appreciated .

Does that mean my password protected files are not really protected! Is there a way to make sure nobody can access the information even read only? Especially for Excel files?

Gracias Enrique

....Remember that locking a file with a password does not necessarily protect your file from malicious intent.

Covering his ass. Anyway I am post 2016 word so unless the CIA come knocking I am probably all safe. I tried copy the file and the new version still kept the password protection with the same password.
