I tend to use my laptop in short spells throughout the day.To this end, I have used "Power Options" settings to have my device "Sleep-When I close the lid"
This is useful because whenever I return to it and open the lid: I'm back at the desktop in two seconds
When I've finished for the day I select "Start">" Power"> "Hibernate" ( ready to return to it the following day)
All very well, but I have a query....
If, during the day, I don't return to the laptop for, say, 3hours ; Instead of getting the "Desktop" when I open the lid; I get a black screen.
admittedly, all I have to do is press the power button, and I get back to the desktop in a few seconds. ( it seems to have gone into some sort of Hibernation)
It's not that I am too lazy to press the power button; I just wondered if this was normal?
Laptop "Poser"
Re: Laptop "Poser"
I would think once its left over say 2 or 3 hours it goes into a different mode to save power. What make is your PC?

Good morning jonbar.1,
What you're experiencing is expected behaviour and is controlled with settings in the Power Options.
Some light reading...............
https://www.howtogeek.com/260311/how-to ... -of-sleep/
Looking at one of my systems in the "gymnasium" that uses the lid close option , it will sleep after 5 mins and then hibernate after 180, so its always available for when Mrs E wants an exercise video............

All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

Cheers Enrique.
The link was very informative.Having read it,Im happy to leave the "Sleep-Hibernate" timings as they are.
Your assurance that it was " Expected behaviour" not a fault, was basically all I needed.
A Lovely picture,you paint,of your home-life with " Mrs E"!
Thankyou JB

Hi Enrique
Thanks for the link.
I follwed the instructions to extend the time before hibernating from sleep.
Unfortunately in the section "Hibrernate After", It is already set to "Never" when plugged in. So i cannot understand why it hibernates after only a couple of hours.
I hope my inserted screenshot works!

Hi jonbar.1
Have a look through all the settings that can control Sleep ,Hibernation, Hybrid and also disk sleep .
Some more light reading.................
https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-u ... ur-dell-pc
Even with the settings set they may not work............. a typical Windows software "Feature".

Re: Laptop "Poser"
Thanks again Enrique.
Had a look at the "disk-sleep"/ "hybrid" stuff.
Far too technical for me.( all that jargon about "RAM" sends me into a coma) I think I'll opt for my laptop "Hibernating" of it's own free will!
Sometimes trying to solve a problem is more stressful than the actual problem!
Cheers JB
