I have been using a MAG 254 box for a few years now.
Recently a small problem has arisen:
When I try to "download" a programme , it takes ages to "Complete" 100%. During which time the box becomes very slow to react to the handset; so I can't really do anything else whilst it downloads.
For example: I could usually download a 1hr programme in 2 or 3 minutes, but now it's around 10mins.
Sometimes it can take up to 20mins.
Could it be the USB stick? or is it the box? ( the box performs very well in all other respects)
Any answers please?

Have you done a speedtest ? It could be internet speed ?

Hi jonbar.1,
USB strick.....what its that used for
if used to store programs then get a new Branded one..... Sandisk, Kingston.
If its used just for storage can a USB HDD be connected......... Seagate 1TB -2TB , USB powered might be an option

All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

Cheers Enrique.
The usb stick sits in the front of the box and allows me to download programmes ( it means we can watch them anytime: not just within the 2week "catchup" facility).
The stick I use is a "PNY". I also have a "Sandisk", which gives me the same problem.
However....since my last posting, I found another stick ( Kingston) which seems to work OK.( but it's only 8G)
I also tried a large "Passport" type remote HDD; this also works OK but is cumbersome to look at!
I conclude that the problem is indeed with the USB stick I am using, but the brand-name doesn't seem to make any difference.
(It doesn't seem to make any difference either whether the stick is "NTFS" or "FAT 32")
I reckon that the stick I am using is where the problem is,so I will buy another .
I would like to get a stick to which files can be transfered quickly on the laptop. My current sticks seem to take ages to accept file transfers. It always seems to be around 3-4MB speed, when they are being transfered.
Thanks again for your input Enrique. JB

Hi jonbar.1,
USB3 connection is the way to go, will be 3x faster than USB2 in real life......never seen the 10x they claim. Overheads in the copy/backup software.

Cheers Enrique
I will,of course, buy the USB3 type.
Not sure what "Overheads in the copy /backup software" means.
