Bluetooth headphones.

Postby jonbar.1 » Thu Apr 01, 2021 3:10 pm

We are about to buy a bluetooth transmitter for our "non-bluetooth" TV.; so that we can use headphones for some programmes with poor sound quality.
As it will only be for selected programmes, ( don"t like wearing headsets for long periods  )how can we avoid having to unplug the gadget from the back of the TV every time we wish to view without using the headphones? ( I believe we have to plug the device into the headphone socket).
Thankyou JB

If it has a headphone socket ( many TVs do not ) the act of plugging in disables the tv speakers. Some TVs have a digital audio out socket or sometimes an analogue option whit 3 different colour sockets. With either it is possible to get an adaptor that will connect to the Bluetooth transmitter. There will be a way round it but not knowing the make and model it’s difficult to be certain what the options are.

Look at the range from Avantree - we have a little box that connects to the optical output, and can connect 1 or 2 separate sets of bluetooth headphones. if you don't wish to hear the tv you simply press the pairing button on either set of phones - if you wish to hear sound in the room you simply turn up the tv volume, useful if one person does not need the help of earphones all the time, or if you have visitors (when these are permitted!).
Excellent quality, long battery life and when we had a problem with one pair of buds they rapidly replaced them and sent postage-paid label for the return of the faulty ones. You can also pair either of the 'phones to another Bluetooth device like an iPad. Highly recommended (usual disclaimers).

Thankyou "Peteroldracer".
Does this mean that using the "optical output" is the answer to the problem of having to unplug?
Could we pair our existing bluetooth headphones with the gadget you mentioned or are they a package?

Cheers JB

This is what we bought: it plugs in to a USB on the tv for its power, and connects with an optical cable for the sound. It did work with a cheap pair of bluetooth earbuds from Carrefour, but SWMBO finds a set from Avantree to have longer active life and to connect more reliably. Their customer service has been excellent, so they will probably tell you if what you have will work with it.
Its very good range lets you miss no audio when you go into the kitchen to make a cuppa - or even when you go to the loo!
