My son just moved flat in Granada.
They have fibre from Movistar with 600mbs.
The router is installed in the lounge and the speed is over 400mbs
His bedroom is a fair distance from the lounge and the signal doesn’t reach.
Have tried a wifi extender but the speed drops to below 30mbs even if we try the extender in the lounge, ie same room as the router.
It’s understandable to have a drop of speed but so much seems excessive.
I guess we have not done something correctly in the set up.
Any help much appreciated.

Re: Wifi extender
Hi snorbs,
Not all WiFi Extenders are created equal.........Make and Model..
Check if the Router is Dual Band 5GHz / 2.4GHz.......... the 2.4GHz will have greater Range.
Options::
Has the Router a Mesh option..... ..... Research .........or Post Router Make and Model and we can see what is available.
If the Router has a spare socket next to where the Router is plugged in, connect up an Ethernet cable and Powerline sender and in the bedroom a Powerline receiver in a mains socket. This will use the Mains circuit to carry the signal.
Some Powerline Examples........

I currently have sites with Powerline AV600 and AV1300 in UK and Spain
Some stuff of interest............

Re: Wifi extender
Its a movistar router
Looks like the brand is Mitrastar
Router smart wifi (HGU) GPT 2541 GNAC
The powerline idea might be a solution as he has confirmed plug socket available near router

Re: Wifi extender
Some companies now offer mesh as part of the package. I bought kit for about 70 Euros and it gives me a strong signal everywhere in the house whereas a booster was not effective,

Thanks Mark and Enrique.
Please bear with me as I am a novice in these matters and I am not in the apartment in Granada but relaying your help to my son.
Enrique if I understand correctly the powerline solution only offers an ethernet connection?
Mark the mesh kit sound interesting. The router he has is the same as the one in your link
https://www.movistar.es/particulares/solucioneswifi
Is this the type of kit he needs for mesh set up?
TP-Link Deco Repetidor de wifi, Super Mesh wifi smart sin interrupción AC1200 Dual-Band hasta 260 m², 2 puertos 100Mbps, hasta 100 dispositivos
or do you think the movistar amplifer in the link you sent would be sufficent?
the costs seem to be similar for all options

Re: Wifi extender
My ISP offers mesh as part of the package. They charge 15 euros set up fee on my one but with different packages there are different fees. I have been looking into changing and many of the big companies do the same. My suggestion is to speak to Movistar and see what they offer.
As I said my set up was rather cheap compared to others and I probably could get better results with other more expensive systems but I have to say I'm happy with what I have. I mostly use it for Zoom work and there is a massive difference between the mesh network and the router's
I have a direct cable going out of my router into one of three mesh boxes, which in turn connect together as one separate network. Moving around isn't a problem as they stay connected to gadgets seamlessly. I have a work computer in the office which connects to one of the boxes with ethernet.

Re: Wifi extender
incorrect - we have a powerline set up in the office, and it supplies full strength wifi to another office next door.

Re: Wifi extender
there MUST be a socket by the router, otherwise how would you plug it in ?
you can buy these set ups as a "thru plug" option - ie where you can plug the unit in, but then you can still use the socket too.
(like this one for 23€ on pc componentes. com - https://www.pccomponentes.com/tp-link-t ... 858215b32b )

Re: Wifi extender
Hi snobs,
#1 ) See what Movistar has to offer first with your current setup..........as per Mark's suggestion.
#2) A Dual Band Powerline will feed Gigabit Ethernet through to the receiver unit and WiFi, my AV 1300 is showing Gigabit (1000Mbps) to my Switch and 250Mbps Wifi in the Computer room. These are local network connection speeds as my ISP is only doing 30Mbps
Installation will be easy, plenty of good videos and only buttons to press. I'd be happy to chat direct if further info is needed on Installation.
Example........... https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-network ... 8631p-kit/
The link Spanish_lad posted is for a WiFi Reapeater.
What was the Repeater (make and Model ) you tried ..... I'm supprised it dropped the speed so much if it was a newish one.
