Disposing of tablet

Postby Lyric » Thu Nov 04, 2021 10:23 am

I have an old Acer tablet. It is running Android 4.4 and not many applications work any more.
I am instructed to dispose of it.
If I erase all data from system settings is this all I can do to dispose of it securely or is there something else.

Hi Lyric,

Google your model Type and remove the SSD/SD before disposal
All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

When disposing of an old PC we took the hard drive out and smashed it all up. You could take the sledgehammer to it

I would remove ssd or hard drive because if it gets into wrong hands they will have all your info. I always remove drive and smash it and dispose of the rest separately.

I did that once it was rather therapeutic

Just do a factory reset and that will wipe everything. Then smash it up!!

Hi,
"Just do a factory reset and that will wipe everything."...........wrong some data will still be available to recovery programs.

Plenty of examples on how to do it..........

My preferred method is to remove any drive...SD /SSD /HDD from the device......

I'm with *Enrique* here, remove memory device and the remainder needs proper recycling, quite a lot of value in these electronic devices.

I think my Spanish girlfriend's husband (who has a mobile phone shop in TdM) will know something, I'll sound her out.

Most tablets are quite difficult to disassemble. Best solution is to drill holes all over them. You will almost certainly destroy the storage device. Same applies to hard disks easily removed from a PC. A hole drilled through the disks, easily done, will prevent data recovery.
