MS One Drive

Postby sampedrena » Fri Mar 25, 2022 6:04 pm

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice regarding MS OneDrive. I have it on my laptop (as well as other devices) and what I would like to happen is that when I delete or amend a file on the laptop it automatically syncs with OneDrive - I also want it so that when I delete / amend in OneDrive it syncs to the laptop. So that the laptop and OneDrive have exactly the same files. This does not seem to happen! When I save / delete / amend in OneDrive it deletes / amends the files on the laptop - but not the other way round! So each time I want to add / delete a file on the laptop, I have to repeat it in OneDrive. I'm sure this is not what is meant to happen! (It seems to work okay with Pictures (photos) - but not Documents) Any advice would be gratefully received! Thank you.

Thanks Enrique - I have had a look and, as far as I can tell, I have all the folders ticked. I thought that if I changed something on the laptop it would change in OneDrive - but that doesn't seem to work at all. It does, however, seem to work the other way round! To me that makes no sense at all - and I can't believe it's meant to be that way.
If you have any other ideas, do please let me know. Thanks again.

I've had a look at OneDrive in Explorer. The vast majority are green with a white tick inside - but there are a few which are a green circle with a green tick in them. The only blue ones are those which indicate they are updating - 2 blue curved arrows making a circle. When hovering with the mouse - the green ones say "Always available on this device", the green circle with green tick say "Available on this device" and the blue arrows say "Sync pending". Hope this helps you to come up with something for me! Many thanks.

Hi sampedrina,

The setup........Windows 10 21H2
I have the Windows Desktop version of Onedrive. There are some other versions with not all the "features"
I setup a Test folder in Documents and copied some files in.
Onedirive is running on PC and is logged in to my MS account.

All files are showing a Green circle with a tick.

What happens.............

Delete a file on onedrive .......... deletes everywhere
delete a file local (PC) ............deletes everywhere
edit a file on onedrive ..................edits on local (PC)
edit a file on local ...................edits on onedrive

I have some old files from a previous play and as these are Duplicates it adds the file extension .Copy

So mine looks like how you want to operate............. :?:

Have read of this before proceeding...............

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/off ... 8262e42a49

How to uninstall............

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/off ... 4e0d7b45b5

My settings look to be the defaults ............make a complete copy of Onedrive to an external disk and remove Onedrive from the Laptop and download a fresh copy. Login with your MS account , It should then download from the Cloud and you will be working as you want.

Please let me know how you get on..........

Hi Enrique
Yes - yours is working exactly how I want mine to work (and how it used to work!) My Windows 10 is 21H1. There is a MS Update but it is still only offering 21H1 - not your newer version.
I have had a look through the web pages but I am very nervous about deleting OneDrive - in case I lose it totally! Do you think there could be any problems caused by deleting and reinstalling? Also would it cause problems with my Tablet and phone?
There is just one other thing that I am wondering about and whether it could be connected in some way. Some months ago, when I clearly had way too much saved on my laptop, MS removed a lot of folders from my laptop and left a link behind saying "where are my files" which take me to OneDrive on my laptop. Do you think this may have anything to do with it?
I should just add that I have since deleted a lot of duplicate folders (including ones with photos) so I now have a lot more room available. I would like to see all my folder in Explorer on the laptop and get rid of this link.
Hope you can help - as I am panicking!
Thank you

Hi sampedrina,
First thing chill.............it's only software.

"in case I lose it totally!"......... that's why I said copy the complete OneDrive to an external USB HDD before you start moving forwards.

If it was me and the files where that important I'd already have at least Three copies On external HDD's.

Before you move forward let me have a play ...I'll remove OneDrive from my PC and Start over and let you know what happens.........

Mean while get a copy of your OneDrive on to HDD.

Hi Enrique
Thank you so much for your message and suggestion. I have tried twice to send a reply to the PM - but can't tell whether either message has been sent!
