Whatsapp

Postby jonbar.1 » Thu May 05, 2022 2:01 pm

At the bottom of the "Select contacts" list ( the one you get when you select the green "list" icon at bottom right)on my Whatsapp there has appeared another list called "Invite To Whatsapp"
This seems to be a list of all my contacts, including ( oddly!) contacts which are already in my Whatsapp Contacts
I have checked my wife's Whatsapp; such a list has not appeared there
I have sent a message to Whatsapp "Help". All they have sent is a compendium of instructions about "Permissions" etc etc. Probably a computer-generated reply.
Has anyone got any Idea why I have got this list ?
How can I get rid of it ?.......screenshot below

WhatsApp has access to your contacts, which helps it to work as that is how the select contacts list is generated.
You can deny access to your contacts, but it may cause problems.
Go to settings, apps, tap 3 dots and select permission manager.
Choose contacts
Tap WhatsApp and select "Don't allow".

I don't recommend this action, but it is how to change permissions for any app for any access.

Cheers Knowal.
I agree.Whatsapp needs "Contacts" permission to work effectively.
Despite my little "problem" the app is working fine; I just find it puzzling that I know of no-one else with this weird "contacts" page

Where did you get the Whatsapp app, from Google Playstore, the iPhone store, whatever it's called, or somewhere else?
If from somewhere else you might have a cloned app that is doing something dodgy.

I got it from Playstore Gerry, ages ago.
This is the first time anything odd has occurred.
I have just uninstalled & reinstalled it, to no effect.
As the app works fine I'm probably just being fussy.

Thanks for your input Knowal & Gerry.
Just to let you know: I deleted my account then opened a new ( same) one.
It did the trick
