Phone vs Sim

Postby jonbar.1 » Fri May 06, 2022 10:56 am

I always have my phone contacts also copied onto the "SIM"
I have just noticed that, when I delete a contact from "Phone" it is also deleted from my "SIM" and vice-versa.
Is this normal?
I know I can "Export/Import" from one to the other. How can I delete from just one location ?
Any ideas appreciated.

Hi jonbar.1,
FIRST.... Export to a file all contacts.

Now you can play , it varies from phone / OS .

If you mess up, you can import from file and you're back at the start.

Thanks Enrique.
Sounds simple....like me!
I take it that, working from the contacts list, deleting from phone automatically deletes from sim too.It is normal?
I had a look in "manage contacts".It gives option to export to "vCard file" What is this and where is it?
Cheers JB

On the older phones you had the option to delete from sim all delete from all. Obviously depends on your O/S

Thanks Costa Kid.& Enrique.
( It's a Galaxy/ Android 2017)
I don't normally delete from one or the other.I just noticed it and wondered if there was a prob.with my phone.
I suppose if, for example, I wanted to delete only from the sim.I could delete it( thereby also deleting it from tbe phone) then simply re-add it as a "new contact" but only to "phone".QED?
Cheers JB.

Hi jonbar.1

"It gives option to export to "vCard file" What is this and where is it?"..........Probably go to "Downloads"

It will be a .vcf file........you could then email this to yourself and using a free vCardEditor read the file.............

https://vcardeditor.en.download.it/

Or use Notepad ++ to open .vcf file.

Any time you want to lean/play with software always make a copy of the area you're going to use.

Thankyou Enrique.
It sounds quite complicated.
I might just try deleting a contact ( from sim & phone) then adding it back to just one of them.( whichever I prefer).Should take little more than 30 secs.
This is probably,of course, only useful if I just want to delete the odd contact, not multiple contacts.
Cheers JB

Update.
Just deleted a contact then added it back to phone-only in 34secs.
Can't believe I didn't think of it in the first place.
Its still a pity though, that my phone won't let me simply "delete" from either sim or phone.
I do intend to have a go at the "vCard file" options though.I'm always happy to learn new stuff.
