Starting today; When I open "Andalucia.com" I am getting an AD creeping up from the bottom of the screen
( See Image )
I am using Edge Browser. This does not occur with any other site on the browser....only "Andalucia"
The Ads do not appear if I open "Andalucia" in Chrome.
I will, of course use Chrome from now on; but I would like to know what has happened here.
Any ideas anyone?
Thankyou
Cheers
JB
Intrusive Ads
Re: Intrusive Ads
Andalucia.com is a free service to its users.
It costs money for the site owners to run it.
They make some money from the ads which are shown.
There are ways of blocking the ads, but do you want to deny the site owners some money to help towards running the site?
Cheers
Gerry

Re: Intrusive Ads
I Quite agree Gerry.
I most certainly have absolutely no problem with supporting the site with advertising.
I had no idea that the ads appeared with the blessing of "Andalucia",since it was only occuring in Edge ( not Crome).
Had "Andalucia" warned us that they had agreed to this form of advertising.I would have accepted it without question.
Knowing this now; I wouldn't dream of blocking the ads.
Cheers JB
( I'd still be interested to know why the Ads don't occur in Chrome )

Re: Intrusive Ads
Hi jonbar.1,
Having run various Browsers (no add blockers) on my "Default" test system , ads appear top and bottom............
Guess your Chrome has some ad setting set.............
PS: You may want to get out more...................

Re: Intrusive Ads
Thanks for raising this Jonbar.1 and gerryh for pointing out the reason for the ads and Enrique for adding some technical info.
As well as the occasional local campaigns, we run Display ads from the Google AdSence network in the header, footer and below the last post of the forum page.
We have thus far declined all manner of more intrusive options such as Pop-ups, Vingette (Ads between pages), screen-side ads, scrolling ads, auto ads (where Google chooses) and also the Floating Anchor Ad; offical name for the one mentioned on this thread.
We first noticed it a few days ago on the main website and since we have not changed anything, and this ad type is turned off in the Adsence control panel we assumed it was a Chrome browser generated ad.
Since members have reported it on other browsers we have to be honest and say we don’t know where it comes from but will keep investigating.
Happy to listen to opinions (good and bad) on this subject.

Re: Intrusive Ads
Hi Jonbar.1,
As a general rule modern Browsers have started to be more selective when handling ads.................
What to do....... selectively add sites you are happy to 'support'....................
Example in Chrome.............
https://support.google.com/chrome/answe ... %3DDesktop
Some "weeks" back A.com ran an Ad from a well known currency exchange company and hard coded it on the site to get round Ad Blockers..........probably picked up a premium £ for that one.............

Re: Intrusive Ads
Enrique.
I have "uBlock Origin" on Chrome, hence no popup ads.
I have no ad-blocker on Edge.Presumably why I get the popup ad on "A.com".
(Will probably add "uBlock" to Edge too )
I would like to be able to allow ads for any site which I might chose to support.
( for example:It would seem that the ad appearing on my "A.com" site is not supporting the site, so I would like to block it)
.....of course you are right Enrique...I should get out more

"Will probably add "uBlock" to Edge too"...........some issues reported this month with latest Edge and uBlock............so try it and see.
if not
Just try a few and see which one suits....................

Re: Intrusive Ads
That sounds like a good idea
Re: Intrusive Ads
We discovered that the Google Adsence ‘Auto Ads’ feature was turned on. Can only think that Google did this automatically. We have turned it off again and it looks like this has stopped the Floating Anchor Ads from appearing.
