Buying a phone

Postby jonbar.1 » Sun Sep 10, 2023 8:58 am

I am currently browsing Amazon.es for a new phone.
There are lots of suitable options but I'm a bit thrown by the initial descriptions saying "Spanish Version"
See image.

Can anyone tell me what this means?
Should it deter me from Buying?

Cheers JB

Hi, jonbar.1

Google ....................

"It means it's default system language when not paired with a phone, is Spanish. This shouldn't be an issue however because once paired with your phone, the system language changes to that of your phone. You don't need to be able to understand Spanish as the pairing is done via the galaxy wearables app on your phone."

Hi jonbar.1,
When setting up a new phone , you would pair up with old one and then apps , contacts etc are copied over to new phone.

Google is your friend for researching and learning.

Cheers Enrique.
I always try Google first. In this case I got the same answer as yours, which I could not understand.
I still don't Get "Not paired with a Phone".
( A purely hypothetical question to try to understand this)........what happens if I currently have no phone; ie:this new purchase is my first ever phone ?
I won't have another phone to pair with it
Ergo: "Spanish Version" would be unsuitable.??

I won't have a problem, of course. I just ask the question out of pure curiosity & my usual thirst for technical knowledge.

Always a pleasure to confuse you Enrique. :P

Hi jonbar.1,
Then my understanding the default language will be Spanish..........not a deal breaker as you could change it to English and then set it up.

I bought a new telephone from ali express a few weeks ago ( S23 ultra )..whatever that is, great camera and no negative issues so far.
And yes I know it was direct from China, but lots of phones on sale in Spain are from China, cost 95 euro including delivery and took 8 days to arrive, so far so good ..

If is claimed to be a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, it is a cheap clone. A real one costs more than 10x that price.

Thanks Sid,
In the advert it didn't say anything about Galaxy, it is functioning very well , looks good and I'm very happy about the cheap price.

Your first phone requires you to set it up, meaning manually inputting phone numbers and installing the apps you want and then adding more of both as and when you need them. When another phone is bought then it can be set up by pairing (copying the settings and information) on your old one with your new one to save time and not lose important information on your old phone

As it is something that is done every few years, most users would not remember how to do it without getting instructions online or with help from the seller. This might prove difficult if you buy one online so you will need, as would I and more or less everyone else, to set it up using online instructions because it is very likey that even if you have done it a few times, you would probably have forgotten the process.

I have an Apple and as far as I remember, I have to use Bluetooth to pass the information from one phone to another but When I come to that bridge, I will cross it by going through the process step by step using YouTube or maybe Apple's Questions and answers pages.

Obviously, There is the set it up manually option as well

It's even easier now with Apple. You put the new phone next to the old one and it does the transfer. I think it is using NFC, not Bluetooth.

Hi,
Android can match that, I recently went from a BQ (2016) with Android 7.0 to a Moto G23 with Android 13.0
Set them side by side and go for a coffee.

I seem to remember it wasn't possible with my Iphone 11 but by the time my wife got her 12 it could be done. I had to download a programme for my transfer of data. Even though some features are failing such as face recognition, It is still a pretty good phone so I'm not in the market for a new one yet unless it completely fails in the near future.

Tech is becoming so good, it isn't necessary to upgrade so often.

I intend buying a Galaxy phone.
My current phone is also a Galaxy,I will use the " Smart Switch" app to transfer the data.
It looks quite easy.
