I have just been told that I may have trouble getting my bike registered here because it was originally from the US, imported into the UK in 95'. Spent a lot of time and money re-building and dont fancy spending any more if it's a waste of time. Any one know if there willbe any more trouble than usual?

Registering a US import.
Just in process of putting my bike on Spanish plate and had the ITV done earlier this week. Is your bike the same as a model which is homologated in Spain/EU? It does not seem to matter where the bike originally was from but whether the Spanish database recognises the homologation. You will need a ficha reducida from the engineer's college and then the ITV station checks the bike against the ficha reducida and if all ok, they issue an ITV "pass" and a ficha tecnica with which you can matriculate the bike. I hope to pick up my ficha tecnica tonight as it has passed all the required testing so now it should be a "simple" administrative matter.

Last year the bike went into a repair-shop for work I couldn't do myself he told me he could get the registration sorted out. Turned out he passed the job onto a gestor who quoted me €1600.00 and wanted me to claim I had just applied for residencia when I had had that 5 years.
Needless to say I turned that down.
The end result of the fiasco was that the mechanic lost the only key and claimed to have done work I did not need doing, in fact the lying toerag hadn't done the work at all. The gestor lost half the documents, log book export licence etc. Fortunatly the DVLH had made a mistake on both the log book and the export licence so I was able to push them into sending replacements.
PS. your right, I should have said the bike was for the US market only just did'nt cross my mind.

just a couple of quick thoughts.....
1/ if it is registered legally in another EU member state, then it should be possible to have it re-registered within the EU.
2/ when you had it registered in the UK, did it have to undergo a SVA.
3/ as GerryH mentions, use the details of the base unit (XJ750 seca).
4/ it was manufactured prior to CoC's and EU directives, so do check the ITV database.
4/ if you wait a couple of years it will qualify as a 'vintage'

The bike had 2 or 3 owners after being imported into the UK I assume it had all the usual checks and tests, certainly passed the mot a few times and was registered with the DVLA. It's insured here as a vintage machine though I dont know what benefits there are other than cheaper insurance.
It's a maxim so I'll try using the 750 maxim or maxim x (water cooled) as the base unit, I think there are a few differences between the maxims and seca's. But thanks for the tip and the offer of help.
