Unmarked police car
Unmarked police car
saw a nice sight yesterday on my way to the big smoke that is Malaga.
An un liveried police car with high tech kit within for the passenger to operate, presumably to video offending motorists (not me I am the one now stopping for six seconds at Stop signs!). It was a dark Blue "used" Fiat Croma estate reg 7976 GFN if my memory serves me correctly. What made me smile was that there were two "ugly baby" sun screens on the window behind the driver presumably to make it harder to see all the kit as you steamed by! Oh and it had what looked like the head of a ground to air missile poking out of a rather crudely cut hole in the front grill.
I bet they used a helicopter to get the Ferrari driver near Baza doing his 160 mph or whatever it was.

Re: Unmarked police car
to be honest i have always hated cops. there are thousands of civil cops around here. if you have a gps just go around fuengirola or estepona. or simply the motorway. 80% of the times they drive either a black seat or a black citroen.

Why the need for a GPS to see the cops ?smash wrote: if you have a gps just go around fuengirola or estepona. or simply the motorway. 80% of the times they drive either a black seat or a black citroen.

There is one simple, fool proof system to ensure you don't get caught speeding:-

I like your innocent faith Gerry: I, sadly, cannot bring myself to believe that a Spanish copper will tell the truth if it interferes in him being able to extract a fine.
Like the local government, I think corruption and ignorance is endemic in both national and civil services.

The police are getting pretty sneaky with their new radar traps. They have an unmarked Renault Clio with a tiny camera built into the wheel arches and have also installed them in the Armco.

Re: Unmarked police car
gps is useful because it detects cops anywhere in a radius of 250 meters. not just when you are going over the limit-even in cities when you just cant e *beep* to deal with them and simply avoid them. so far ive seen many civil cops driving the following cars(all of those cars were black):
citroen xara
renault clio
renault megane
seat leon
seat ibiza
peugeot 306
vw golf 5
opel corsa
opel astra
i might be missing something but i believe thats it

Re: Unmarked police car
GPS = Global positioning System. It locates your device not anything else . Mind you I use mine to keep an eye on my "speed over the ground" which is about 15% more accurate than your speedo in the car.smash wrote:gps is useful because it detects cops anywhere in a radius of 250 meters.
Re: Unmarked police car
I'm fully aware what GPS stands for. and that it gives a very accurate reading of "speed over the ground".
Still intrigued to know how, according to "smash" how it detects cops.
Cheers

Re: Unmarked police car
simple-all cops have radio stations working at a certain frequencies. cops are actually obligated to keep those radio stations on(including civil cops), unless they have a special assignment or something like that(which is more than rare). what the gps does(i believe all of them do) is detect all devices working at that frequency and beep as soon as it detects it(250 meters) or moo in my casegerryh wrote:How does GPS detect a cop?smash wrote:gps is useful because it detects cops anywhere in a radius of 250 meters.

Re: Unmarked police car
the police now have equipment than can detect which cars have the devices that can warn the driver of radar traps and can fine cars using them.
Re: Unmarked police car
Unmarked police cars (known as "ghost cars") are very common in North America. In many areas (most?) it is also illegal (for quite a few years) to have radar sensing devices.

GPS is a satellite based positioning system that receives signals from group of satellites in geostationary orbit.
Unless the police have now got police cars circling the earth there is no way a GPS receiver can locate a police car.
I think you have spent to much time watching Doctor Who!

Re: Unmarked police car
A satnav can be legitimately programmed with the location of known fixed speed cameras. You can either subscribe to a continuously updated list or program the locations from information given on the DGT web site.
This is obviously no good for temporary mobile speed checks.

Maybe GPS could stand for Gullible Pr@t Smash?
It is surely a lot easier and safer to simply drive well?

Re: Unmarked police car
I´m not convinced that always driving within the limit is safer than going slightly faster...there are certain places when going at 50km is more likely to cause an accident by everyone getting impatient and trying to overtake.
when you know there is a radar and try to keep within the limit you usually have a car in your boot !!
