SORN

Postby Campo Steve » Mon Oct 22, 2012 12:50 pm

Is there the equivalent of SORN in Spain. As I am no longer able to drive or ride due to health reasons for a period to be confirmed I will not be able to ride my bike, especially to take it for ITV due in December.

Of course, selling it is probably a sensible option, but if it doesn't sell before the ITV renewal, I have to do something.

The following site may be of use. (It's a tiny URL with your name because I'm nice). I think it's about taking your bike off the road temporarily.
The site is in Spanish so it's probably best to ask Mrs Cobos.

Steve, what type of bike is it ? I'm trying to figure out whether to take one of mine to Spain or buy.

Steve off-line just now but I think it's a Suzuki 850.

The full model is a Suzuki VL800 Volusia cruiser. Decided not to go down the selling route as I can do a temporary Baja i.e.get it put off road until I am able to drive/ride again. Nothing definite but that date may be closer than if it had been UK. Hope to find out more info on that tomorrow when I see the neurosurgeon. Depends on further treatment required.

Thanks Peter and Crissie.

Peter, I had thought of asking you as one of my options but my gestor already has the paperwork and is arranging the temporary baja (she doesn't charge much for doing work for us as she is pretty much a friend). Thank you for the offer though. Ironically I bought a new helmet a few days before the diagnosis and haven't worn it out yet. Hope it still fits when I am allowed back on the road.

Good luck Steve
You can spend, minutes, hours, days, weeks or even months over-analyzing a situation; trying to put the pieces together, justifying what could've, would've happened - or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move the f**k on.

Hope it goes well and you'll back on two wheels soon, well when the weather improves anyway.

Thanks for the good wishes and offers of help. Surgery went well and radiotherapy starts next week.

As for the bike, our gestor has the completed paperwork, signed by me, and will be taking it to Trafico next week to get the temporary baja. Apparently not only does it mean I don't need to worry about the ITV but next years tax won't need paying until the bike is registered as back on the road. If it is off all year then no tax at all. I'm hoping it won't be that long aalthough it would be even longer if in UK. I have been advised that it is up to the neurosurgeon. If he says don't drive then I don't drive. When he says I can drive then fine. I don't have to tell the authorities until my licence is due for renewal. Then I have to bring it up at the medical. Don't know what the procedure is then.
