Linea Direct and refunds

Postby oliveview01 » Thu Feb 21, 2013 8:50 pm

I rang Linea Direct and told them I was changing my car and asked about the existing policy being transfered to the new car, no problems they said. I then rang back and gave them the new car details telling them I would be changing the policy in the morning for the old car and picking up the new(er) car in the afternoon. I was then told I could not do that, I had to take up a whole new policy and I would be refunded for the old policy.
I asked how much refund I would be getting (8 1/2 months worth) The lady could not tell me, it was up to a different department. I returned the signed form cancelling the old insurance and waited.... and waited.... today I rang LD to be told I would get the refund when I re-newed the new policy, in 11 months time! I told the man he had got to be joking and I wanted it now, as I was told it would be refunded straight away- so I have to wait for him to listen to the taped call- who bets he interprets the ´you can have a refund´ his way. Has anyone here changed a policy with LD and had similar problems?
I am expecting around 300€ refund (well hoping  ) not just a few euro´s.

I must admit that is one thing I learnt early on. If you are going to change the car do it towards the end of the policy !
Having said that I once changed mine 2 weeks after renewing & had to take out a new policy which was 210€ cheaper than what I had already paid for the renewal. I expectd to get tucked right up with the refund, but was quite surprised when the refund amounted to the full amount less 2 weeks. I had to wait 20 days for the refund though . That was with Liberty Seguros.

In March last year I sold a Ford which was a second car. Linea Directa told me I had 130€ left over which they would hold for six months in case I got another second car.
Which I did, I got a Citroen and paid the insurance in September, which they said was OK to be within the 6 months.
This month I renewed my main car's insurance and realised I hadn't got the refund on the Ford.
I emailed them.
They replied by phone and said that I would have to wait until 45 days after this latest renewal as they don't get the cash straight away.
So, they really tricked me, as I was due that refund when I started the Citroen and paid for that.
As long as I get it in April, I won't be too fussed, but they make these promises, then I wonder if they "conveniently" forget.

Very sharp practice.

When I changed my car from a 12yr old ford escort to a 3 yr old seat leon a couple of years ago I rang linea direct to tell them and was surprised that they simply sent me a new policy without any extra charge.
There was 8mths left on the old policy.

All I wanted them to do was transfer the policy to the new car, the new owner was going to insure the car from the day they purchased it, so I would have ´stopped´ the policy at mid day and commenced the ´new´ one at 12.01 and picked up the new car in the afternoon..... which is what LD said I could do..... then I speak to another person and was told no I could not do that, I had to take out a whole new policy and they would refund the money on the old policy. I am still waiting for a call back regarding the refund. I will be phoning them on Monday again.
They might be good on breakdowns/repairs  but on refunds/transfers they stink  Talk about keeping you tied to them for 2 years! I have been with them for 8.5 years almost so hardly about to run to a new insurer.

I have just had a call from LD and they listened to the phone-call I had made about the new/old policy and agreed I had been told I could have a refund straight away  I was tempted to say ´told you so´ but resisted and said a polite thank you. But a refund ´straight away´ translates to 7-10 days :lolno: Funny my money gets to their account straight away but their money takes 7-10 days
Well, I know what I can spend some money on, a shop in the town has some lovely new patchwork material in...... :lolno: or is that hubby I can hear saying it can go towards the new car´s insurance bill???

Oooh no Oliveview - go for some more patchwork supplies
You can spend, minutes, hours, days, weeks or even months over-analyzing a situation; trying to put the pieces together, justifying what could've, would've happened - or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move the f**k on.

Changes ours almost 5 months into the renewal and AJB refunded 7 months unused from the old vehicle and debited the cost of a new policy for the replacement the same day , was almost the same premium within €2 so the net result was we had simply paid for an extra 5 months cover but would be 5 months longer before we had to renew and pay again , chuffed .

I'm confused (what's new!). I've done this about three times with LD and never had a problem. I gave them the details of the new vehicle and they transferred the cover to the new one when I picked it up. They faxed details of the cover to the dealership before I drove away with the new car. When the policy expired (in one case, about two months later) they gave me a new quote for the new vehicle.

Am I missing something?

Same experience here as Masterbob had.
Just phoned them changed from old car to new car, no problem.
Perhaps they have recently changed the system?
Cheers

With the first call I made regarding changing our car I was told I could change the policy to the new car, then when I wanted to do that I was told it was illegal to have an uninsured car, even though I told them the car was being sold and re- insured the same day by the new owner. They wanted the new owner to insure it with them, I said she would choose her own company.
When the man spoke to me yesterday he asked for the name of the person who had bought the car and her phone number (I could not give him that) I told him all the paperwork was done at the Gestors office and I could only give him the new owners name and the village she lived in.
